According to our colleague at ESPN NewYork, Ohm Youngmisuk, Giants’ restricted free agent WR Victor Cruz is among the receivers working out with QB Eli Manning down in North Carolina this week.
The quarterback hopes he will be doing the same this offseason with Cruz at the Giants’ practice facility when the team trains.
“I hope so,” Manning said when asked by ESPN’s Chris Mortensen at the Manning Passing Academy at Duke University. “I know he wants everything to get finished and be with the Giants and get back to work. It was great to get him here for a few days and I haven’t seen these guys in a while.”
Also working out with Eli are Hakeem Nicks, who is coming off foot and knee injuries, and newly-signed free agent Louis Murphy. It’s a good sign, folks. Cruz has only a little over a week left to field offers from other teams before his rights revert back to the Giants. Nicks being able to do anything at this point on the field is good news as well.
“It has been good work having Louis Murphy, a new guy, having Hakeem Nicks, having these guys here to get some work and get us prepared for this coming season,” said Eli.
The team has said Nicks will start slowly this spring as to not re-aggravate his knee, which was scoped this winter. The Giants’ offseason program begins next week. From Rotoworld:
The Giants will kick off OTAs next week, so the fact that Nicks is already running routes and catching passes from Eli Manning is a sign that he should be ready to work out in East Rutherford, too. We’d expect the Giants to take it easy on their fifth-year receiver at the onset.
