With no Giants game until tomorrow night, local fans will be treated to only two broadcast games this afternoon and one tonight. And what a trio of beauties they are, too. Today might be a good day to get some chores done.
1:00pm FOX Arizona (4-7) at Jets (4-7)
Broadcast team: Thom Brennaman, Brian Billick, Laura Okmin (field reporter)
The Cardinals take their dysfunctional offense and seven-game losing streak to MetLife Stadium to face the sinking Jets, who will be without their most fervent and visible fan (Fireman Ed) for the first time in 30 years. The place will be a ghost town today. Tickets can be had on StubHub for as low as $20.
This might be the least attractive game of the season. It has no redeeming value. If the Cardinals win, the Jets will booed right out of East Rutherford. If they win, big deal. Arizona is starting a young, inexperienced QB in Ryan Lindley, who is sporting a QB rating of 47. The game has no fantasy football value, either. With Lindley at QB, WR Larry Fitzgerald is a no go. Anyone who is starting any Jets players at this point of the season, is either desperate, or incompetent as an owner.
4:25pm CBS Pittsburgh (6-5) at Baltimore (9-2)
Broadcast team: Jim Nantz, Phil Simms
Normally, this would have been a marquee game, but the Steelers will be without QB Ben Roethlisberger again. With Ben out, Pittsburgh will have to go with Charlie Batch in this must-win situation, Against the Ravens on the road, that’s a tall order. The Steelers will be looking at their third straight loss. Baltimore wants to put Pittsburgh away for the winter, and they should be able to do that quite easily this afternoon unless the Steelers play defense like they haven’t played all year.
8:20pm NBC Philadelphia (3-8) at Dallas (5-6)
Broadcast team: Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth and Michele Tafoya (field reporter)
Who woulda thunk both these teams would have losing records at this stage of the season, but they do and they’ve both earned it. The Eagles are a mess. No Michael Vick, no LeSean McCoy and with Andy Reid is on his way out after the season, Philly is going in the wrong direction with no brakes. They cut Pro Bowl DE Jason Babin last week and others will be following. No way they beat the Cowboys tonight. Too bad for the Giants, because a Dallas loss would pretty much put them down for the count.
