Kevin Boothe signs with Raiders

Former New York Giants offensive lineman Kevin Boothe has signed a two-year deal with the Oakland Raiders (Raiders, March 17).

Boothe was originally drafted by the Raiders, and played in Oakland during the 2006 season before spending the next seven years with the Giants.

He will join former New York teammate Justin Tuck, who signed with the Raiders last week.

It would have been nice to retain Boothe, but the Giants are apparently moving past him. They have JD Walton in the fold and, if healthy, could be the team’s center this season. They also have Dallas Reynolds who can serve as the swing center/guard, which was Boothe’s role.

The plan could be as many suspect – the Giants will draft a LT, move Will Beatty to RT and shift Justin Pugh to RG if Chris Snee is not 100 percent. Geoff Schwartz will be the LG.

I know when Pugh was 1st drafted the Giants openly talked that along with T & G they also felt Pugh could even play C. Do you think there's a chance that if they draft a T such as Lewan in the 1st Rd and Snee is healthy that the Giants could try to transition Pugh to C?

Lewan should be the pick (if he is there). Move Beatty to RT. I'm curious to know the workings of his contract - as in if he can't cut it this year if it's possible to cut him. Obviously there would be dead money, but depending on how it's structured it might actually save us money

I am fine with Boothe moving on. Reese is on a real upswing and I am confident now he will get the O line where it needs to be by the start of training camp. And...WE WILL GET LEWAN in the draft. Say it and he will come...

@Brian Webster  It's a stretch at this point and at this level. Pugh was a LT at Syracuse and played RT last year as a rookie. A move inside would have to take place in training camp, and early on at that. And that would jut be to guard. Center is two slots in and I think moving Pugh there would only be done in an emergency  situation.

@mcfly  Too early in his deal to cut him. Still in the guaranteed money stage. In a five-year deal, you're basically going to be looking at that player for three seasons.
