The Giants would use the No. 12 pick in the draft to select Johnny Manziel if he’s still available, a source told Jordan Raanan of The Star-Ledger (NJ.com, May 8).
“The person claims the Giants would have that discussion (and likely already have chatted about the possible scenario), despite having two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Eli Manning on the roster,” Raanan said.
The Giants could always end up trading Manziel before the day is done, or trying to coax another team into trading with them to make sure they can draft Texas A&M’s star QB.
John Fennelly, Lead WriterGood stuff. I really don’t see this happening, but if it does, I’ll have plenty to say about it.
If Manziel is available at 12 that would mean all four O-lineman, Aaron Donald and Mike Evans are all gone. So it’s very possible he’s the BPA on the Giants’ board.
The Giants are committed to Eli, but the shine is off the apple after a recent decline in productivity. He’s theirs for at least two more seasons. They are looking for a backup, however. Manziel is better than any of the cadavers they’ve been wheeling in here the past few seasons, that’s for sure.
To me, Manziel is the most intriguing player in this draft. Whoever lands him may have the next Steve Young on their hands. Unlimited risk, potential and reward.
Why wouldn’t the Giants take him at 12? It’s growing on me. Take him and trade him. Take him and keep him, yada, yada, yada. The media would explode.
