The Giants “have an offer” out to RB Rashad Jennings (Smith, March 11). He is waiting on the Oakland Raiders to make a move.
Jennings had 733 yards on 163 attempts with the Raiders last season. He scored six touchdowns. He rushed for 88 yards against the Giants on November 10, 2013.
Free agency begins at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
John Fennelly, Lead WriterThe Raiders have over $60 million in cap space, so they’ll be able to match – or beat – any offer from the Giants. Jennings would have to weigh personal gain in favor of playing for a potential contender and that may not be an easy decision for him.
Jennings has expressed a desire to stay in Oakland, but has not ruled out leaving for the right offer. From Doug Bair of CSN BayArea:
“Wants don’t always happen. In times like this, they can be irrelevant,” Jennings said in a telephone interview with CSN Bay Area. “I can’t fully control what happens when it comes to the business side of things. All I can do is put out my footage and show what kind of person I am. The goal is to prove one team’s evaluation right.”
The Giants would do well by landing Jennings. With Peyton Hillis, Jon Conner and Michael Cox under contract, the team would practically be out of the RB market. The only possible move for them would be to bring back Andre Brown should David Wilson not be ready.
