Giants: Fraud lawsuit “without merit”

By now you’ve heard the Giants and Eli Manning are being sued over fake memorabilia the allegedly tried to pass off to dealers and even the Hall of Fame. The team has issued a response denying the allegations.

From Newsday:

The Giants on Thursday morning adamantly denied the allegations in a lawsuit filed in New Jersey Wednesday claiming that Eli Manning and the team create fake game-worn memorabilia.

“This suit is completely without any merit whatsoever and we will defend it vigorously,” the Giants said in a statement. “We will not otherwise comment on pending litigation.”

Eli Manning issued a statement on the memorabilia lawsuit he’s facing: “The Giants told me this suit is completely without merit …and I have no reason to believe otherwise. The Giants are going to fight it and so will I.” #NYG

I'm interested to see how Skookaloop will somehow blame Jerry Reese for this.

I would not be surprised if there is something to this.  The idea of a clubhouse guy/equipment manager/dry cleaner doing something shady is nothing new.  We've seen this all over the place.  The memorabilia industry is littered with this stuff.  But the Manning/front office involvement?  I think I'd need to see more than just a lawsuit filed by a guy with an axe to grind.  Throwing names like Manning and Mara into the lawsuit are what gets the story on the front page.  If it were just the equipment guys it would barely be a story.

@cj1786 Agreed I mean it doesn't pass the smell test. Eli Manning and the Mara's have entirely too much wealth to be worrying about screwing over a low level memorabilia dealer. Does it sound like something they would do? Respected people in the sport of football the Manning family and the Mara family selling bogus game worn stuff. It just doesn't make any sense and when things don't make sense and are completely against the characters of the people involved I will withhold judgement until this plays out. Just doesn't pass my smell test at all.

Yea that's what I mean. It just doesn't add up. But like I said, I wouldn't be surprised if the equipment guy and the dry cleaner really were up to something though.
