Giants Cut David Baas

According to sources, the Giants have released C David Baas.

From Rotoworld:

The move saves $1.775 million in cap room, although it leaves a whopping $6.45 million in “dead money” on the Giants’ cap. Baas, 32, has broken down physically in recent years, and the G-Men have interest in ex-Packers C Evan Dietrich-Smith. Dietrich-Smith played under new Giants OC Ben McAdoo in Green Bay. Recovering from a knee injury, Baas may resurface on a minimum contract.

The way things go these days, this may not be the end of Baas. The Giants have to find a replacement for him. It’s very possible he re-emerges at camp if they can’t, but they would not have taken this hit if they weren’t confident they can land a top center in free agency.

The Giants could have saved some money if they designated Baas as a June 1st cut. The savings would have been $5 million as opposed to the $1.775 million they save right now.  According to Ebenezer Samuel of the Daily News. Baas was ‘not physically ready” and the team probably felt they needed to act sooner rather than later.

Like i Said " DEAD Money will be bad this Year "

and the Cash is ALREADY SPENT !!!

"IN REESE WE RUSTED"

the NYG's will also pay BAAS in  2015,

as part of his signing Bonus...

But it is the RIGHT Move....

So Nice Job REESE, Great Start, Keep Moving Forward----->

lets bite the bullet now and take the hit, clear all the dead wood and begin the rebuilding process immediately.

the fans are knowledgeable enough to understand the situation and trying to deceive the fans would be a mistake.

this loyal fan base has gone through many hard times and this is just another one of those occasions.

I think it's ok to cut Baas now, the Giants have the cap room and it clears up next year.  The Giants need to rebuild a little.

@Brian Bannon  i somewhat get it because they must have plans for eds or bdp already so they want to move on

@dannym28 from what i've read he can be designated the June 1st cut which makes sense, he'll become a free agent, but the cap the Giants save from cutting him won't be able to be used until June 2nd

Who cares? We could designate him June 1 and use that $5 million savings on the rookies we draft in May. I just don't get it. This makes no sense.

@JamesWS @dannym28 @Brian Bannon  I thought the same thing they could use the 5.5 million for draft picks but if I understand it it will save money in next year cap taking the hit now.

@dannym28 @Brian Bannon  It still makes no sense because they can designate it a June 1 cut and use that $5 million to pay the rookies we draft in May. The rookie symposium isn't until June 23.
