Wide receiver Mario Manningham may be back with the Giants for a second time, but it may be a short second chance. Manningham was forced to leave Thursday’s preseason finale against the New England Patriots after just four plays with a calf injury (ESPN, August 29).
As final roster cuts must be made by Saturday, Manningham may have hurt his chances at making the 53-man roster as he did little to stand out in his short preseason run.
The 28-year-old suffered an ACL and PCL tear in his left knee in 2012, but said this injury was unrelated.
“I’ll be all right,” Manningham said. “But it was really frustrating being that this was the last preseason game.”
Manningham signed a one-year contract with the Giants in March, who hoped he would fall back into his role as a strong impact player as he was in his first stint with the team.
