Afternoon notes: Giants check out WR/KR Diontae Spencer

The terms of TE Kellen Davis’ deal have been disclosed as per SNYGiants insider Ralph Vacchiano:  “One year, $795,000. … Only counts for $570,000 against the cap.”

Rotoworld has the breakdown: $730,000 (plus $15,000 signing bonus, $30,000 roster bonus, $20,000 workout bonus).

Former Giant RB Andre Brown is visiting with the Houston Texans today. (PFT). The Texans are in the market for a RB after Ben Tate left for Cleveland via free agency a few weeks ago.

UPDATE: Brown has signed a one-year, $635k deal with Houston. (Rotoworld)

Ebenezer Samuel of the Daily News reports the Giants were one of 19 teams at McNeese State WR/KR/PR Diontae Spencer’s pro day today. Spencer was clocked at 4.27 in the 40 yard dash. (READ)

I wish Brown all the luck in the world.  He was very good for the G-Men when healthy.  It's unfortunate that he couldn't stay on the field.

JaymanJay Mock Draft 3:

1. Zach Martin OT/G 6"4 308

I am more an more sold on Martin not because I want him over Lewan or Mike but because I think by the time the G-Men select he will be the BPA that fits a need Lewan and Evans will be long gone.  He is also a Pugh type that the giants like mean he can play multiple positions effectively on the line.  He is a pretty safe pick and really good.

2. Troy Niklas TE 6"7 270

Again, TE is an area of weak for the G-Men Niklas looks like a better version of Boss.

3. Will Clarke DE 6"6 271

Have to add debt to the DE position. Tuck left and who knows if JPP come back to form.

4. Daniel McCullers DT 6"7 352

Again need to add dept we more big bodied DT's Joseph is gone as well as Rogers.

5. Bryan Stork C 6"4 315

Good Center prospect and very strong.

5.  Diontae Spencer WR 5"9 170

Very Very fast WR/KR could he be the G-Men's Jackson?  He is small very small, but the Giants don't have a guy this explosive on there roster.

6. Seantrel Henderson OT 6"7 331

This pick could be a steal if he panes out.  If Beatty has another poor year.  Henderson could step in. With Henderson on the right and Martin on the Left and Pugh and Stork inside you might might have a young powerful offensive line of the future.

Notes: Would have loved to take another Big WR but I think at the times the G-Men pick there will be more valuable players at other positions to address.  Could have taken a big WR in round 3 and 4 but getting Clarke and Mcullers seemed too good to pass on.

@TheTrueStork  I was a doubter on Brown early on because of the injuries and the way he was celebrating at the Super Bowl parade as if he was MVP even though he had not played a second that year. That aside he came up big when he got the chance. Watching him run hard and strong (like bradshaw) was impressive. I always felt bad for the poor sucker who had to tackle him because it looked like he inflicted pain.

I understand who the Giants can only have so many "ifs" of unhealthy bodies on the roster.  Good luck Dre, just don't do it to the Giants.

@jaymanjay Not bad selections, would like to give you other options:

Round 1: Martin is solid OT and this could be a possibility for the Giants. Somehow I believe the Giants select a pick in round 1 with a player who is more of a playmaker and not a safe pick.

Round 2: Solid choice and wouldn't change it.

Round 3: Another solid choice as Clarke can become a very productive DE

Round 4: McCullers is very similar to Hankins. Large and strong and can clog things up, nice pick.

Round 5a: Many mock drafts has Stork possibly going in the 4th round. So there's a good chance he will not be available in round 5. If so, and you still want a center in this round, Gabe Ikard or even Tyler Larsen could be available.

Round 5b: Giants need to big WR as they already have two WR in Cruz and Jerrigan who are similar in size to Spencer. My suggestion is Brandon Coleman.

Round 6: Henderson is projected by many mock drafts to go in round 5. He could slip down into the 6th round and if so, that would make 3 OL in this draft. Not sure they will do that. Another option could be at RB with Isaiah Crowell

@jaymanjay

Jayman you read my mind,I was thinking the same thing today,Niklas has only played tightend two years so I was thinking Martin helped him adapt to the blocking and keeping them together might be a smart idea going the first two picks with Notre Dame guys.It will help Niklas alot to have his buddy next to him. Also I hear that Martin is a real good team leader which I like alot.

@ReneNYG1 @jaymanjay

TE Niklas was a O-Lineman,

before a TE,

thats why he is the BEST BLOCKing TE....

thats ALL he used to DO...

OT Martin Helped him with WHO to Block,

not HOW....
