Its completely fair. You lost this team so early you were lucky to have the job through the season.

Murry should have been getting more time all year, not saying he was our savior, but Fatty was our demise.... That being said, #FIREBALDY

It was almost as hard to watch Woodson's confused looks as this disjointed team.  Need someone fresh.  I am mostly worried they bring in someone like Kerr who can't control this circus as constituted.  They need someone that will bench the like of JR when he gets out of control.

I for one...would not mind if Melo got his hat and coat...let the door hit ya brotha! He clearly does not get it. Him not being on the floor at the end of the game to show the fans his appreciation is just a microcosm of his selfish, self centered style of play. I put a lot of the blame for what has transpired this season on him. As the "franchise player" you don't set the tone of the season by announcing that you will be opting out at seasons end. He wants to be "wood & swooned" whatever the F he said. "Clown" Now he's acting like he has nothing to do with this disgraceful season. "I got a lot to think about" Negro please....This is a team....and you were a part of that team. When they succeeded he wanted all the attention he could get...now...He doesn't even show up for the last game??? Come on...GTFOH!!!!

what is the blogs predictions on raptors vs nets ??

Do they keep an offensive efficiency out of timeout stat?  if they do, i guarantee knicks were bottom 5 in the league.  And not just at the end of games, just after random timeouts in the 3rd quarter they struggled to get a shot off and seemed clueless.  Not sure what Woody did in the huddle with that clipboard for 2 minutes but nothing ever worked.  Add that to the horrible defense, over switching for the first 6 weeks of the season that was obviously killing the team but took until Christmas to correct and an inability to adjust rotations based on matchups, who is playing well, etc and you have one of the worst coaches in the NBA.  Not sure how he ever got in the door under D'Antoni as a defensive specialist bc his defensive schemes were just horrible.  He will never get a head coaching job again and should be fired today in my opinion.

lets see the worst owner in the nba has been fooling the fools for 20 years, after some fans get fed up he hires one of the greatest coaches ever and puts him in a position he has never held before and the fools see nothing but visions of mvp's, ecf, and champ on the horizon with melo the super star leading the charge.

to call some on this site fools is really giving them a compliment and as a fan since the 60's its hard to comprehend that the fans have gotten as pathetic as the team under the dolan reign, then again i guess it takes one to know one and dolan sees just how gullible and stupid these fans really are.

in the good old days of knowledgeable fans and team bb these poor excuses for fans would be considered nothing more than facsimiles of the real thing and relegated to the cheap seats where they couldn't do any damage, today they combine their stupidity and agree on one thing they know nothing about team bb and what it takes to assemble a real team with high bb iq, all they see is points scored and how many shots it takes to get there is irerelevant.

i wish pj all the luck in the world but dolan isn't the only obstacle to success he also has to deal with fans that are school children compared to the fans he played for when here and he will see that soon i'm sure, throw another scorer their way and all will be well with the world and phil need not worry about d because these morons can't even spell the word, too them the court is 47 feet and the paint is there for aesthetics.

my guess is phil lasts around 2 or 3 years and leaves with 60 mil in his bank account after dolan in his inimitable self interferes and breaks the terms of the  contract or simply fires phil for trying to do what he was hired for, after all dolan is dolan and these fans are well they claim to be fans but the jury is still out on that one.

good luck phil you will definitely need it, knowledgeable fans are willing to wait and rebuild this once great franchise the correct way no matter how long it takes, real fans yearn for the chants of defense defense to fill the garden once again and a franchise that embodies what a team is all about.

By bringing the Kardashians to Madison Square Garden, Phil Jackson is finally establishing the much-needed winning culture our team desperately needs.

The Phil Jackson era begins with a crack head signing!

If he didn't stand and watch the team implode...during the last seconds of winnable games...they would be in the playoffs.   He personally mis managed enough games where ....their failure to make the playoffs is on him....2 games would have done it.

Aside from the fact that his sole mission for the first 3 quarters of the season was managing veteran minutes rather than coaching .....reason enough.

K-MART ON WOODY:

Martin said it was unfair that coach Mike Woodson was left to take blame for what went wrong with the team.

"Woody, he had us prepared every game. It was just we didn’t go out and get it done," Martin said. "It wasn’t one day we didn’t have shootaround, didn’t watch film or game plan. All that went on still. It’s the same game plan, same scheme, same everything we had last year. We just didn’t get it done. Us, with the expectations we had, of course we feel like we underachieved as a bunch."

tifoso6
tifoso6

its sad Woody does not understand what is going on.   His refusal to use young talent in Atlanta cost him his job.  Now the same thing has happened here.   Cole Aldrich got got 16 rebounds last night and 13 the preceding game.  Imagine when Chandler was injured what would have  happened if Woody gave Alrdrich major minutes instead of using that clown Bargnani.   Or look Toure Murray 6 foot five and long and quick,

what would have happened if Woody had developed a defensive back court of Murray and shumpert.   And

have you noticed how well Shumpert is playing since Jackson gave him a vote of confidence. Woody is not

a bad person he is just a very bad coach.

@chudogz  Our demise did not come at the hands of one single player.

It was a team effort to suck and it was a team effort to give up on the coach.

I see your frustration and its cool but like Brookdon mentioned, I think you're reaching a bit. None of us know what Melo is doing now and why he didn't show up for the last game.

I don't think the Nets can keep up with the speed and youth of this raptor team but I wouldn't be shocked if the Nets won the series.

@knickster To be fair I don't think we'll ever see a Kardashian at MSG while Odom is here.. That said, Phil has bigger fishes to fry. I'm not going to pick nits over an unguaranteed signing.

JCOHEN68
JCOHEN68

@tifoso6 R U 4 real? U give up 3 picks for a guy and then leave him on the bench for a D-League guy. U guys would have shot Woody, no less petition for his firing. I can hear it now, "Woody has lost his mind, playing Aldrich over Bargs!!!". Please.

Bargs was the Knicks worse deal in decade. You could easily make a case that this is worse than the Eddy Curry deal. When this deal jumped off, I thought it was terrible. Hell, Dolan must have known it was a mistake before the season started, and fired Grunwald.

We have no 1st round pick next year, and no 2nd the 2 years following ... OMFG!!!

BiggieTKB
BiggieTKB

@tifoso6  how do you know Aldrich was ready to contribute at this level in the early games?.  All we heard about from Hahn -- who ATTENDS practice -- was that Cole spent many hours before practice working on his game to get it to this level..

these were essentially garbage time games.  we've seen what players like Toure Murry do with meaningful minutes vs garbage time minutes.  It's a very different dynamic when the minutes mean something vs. and One time

tw22
tw22

@VerySilentJay @chudogzThe same team he had in the palm of his hand last year. He lost this team and should have given minutes to Murray to spell Felton and corral him to a shorter amount of game time, increasing his effectiveness. He didn't and Felton stunk it up all for a two week stretch. You don't blame the coach?! The coach made no adjustments to make this team better, game to game he might as well have personally tore Carmelo's shoulder from his socket and discounted the talent on the end of his bench. How can you not blame him? He lost his job in December, if not for that streak after the new year he would have been long gone. The players gave up on him then? Get outta here.

kofi
kofi

He was in the arena. We have to stop making excuses for guys, just because they play for the knicks.

tw22
tw22

@brookdon Maybe, but he has a bum shoulder and isn't getting any younger. Jackson is here for more than a year and no one in their right mind thinks they do anything more than contend for a lower tier playoff spot next year, so, what are we doing? Sign and trade, get the basic pieces we need to work the triangle and score in the 2015 free agency class with bonus lottery pick. Elementary.

How am I reaching? The man has been called selfish his entire career. ...

with the way the nets played the 2nd half..they are not a 6th seed....if they played like that all year they would be 3rd....but the raptors are no joke....very solid team

knickster
knickster

It's not nitpicking. It's about making meaningful moves, moves that have more potential to help than potential to hurt. Bringing a drug addicted, washed up player to NY when we have drug addicted JR Smith on board is just asking for trouble.

Odom is not a "low risk/high reward" type of signing. Just the opposite: the rewards are very low and the risk too great.

As fans, we can't just turn a blind eye to every Phil Jackson move in the hopes it will all click. We must continue giving credit where credit is due and sounding an alarm when it's justified. Signing Odom is just the latest in a long line of maneuvers meant to sell names, NOT PRODUCTION, to fans. It has failed 99% of the time.

But I understand the Phil Jackson honeymoon is in fool bloom. I am excited to see change. I'm hopeful that he will make the team much better. It's just that when I see this type of move I remember how it has always failed for the last 14 years. In all honesty, it looks like the typical Dolan move and the typical fan reaction: we assembled the NY Nuggets with miserable results. Now we are assembling the pathetic NY Lakers under the excuse that scrubs like Shanon Brown and Lamar Odom are "familiar with the triangle".

A terrible move, in my opinion.

tw22
tw22

@knicksgirl35 @kofiDude's been hurt since last year prior to the playoffs. He's been a beast for us, no doubt. It doesn't change the fact that he is damaged goods and can't be relied on going forward. 2014-15 is a rebuilding (there is no siginificant free agent outside of Melo if LeBron doesn't opt out) and learning year (presumeably Kerr and the triangle) with a chance at an 8 seed, (if the NBA doesn't change the playoff seeding rules). He will be 31 during the 2015-2016 with a shoulder that will bother him when he is on the NBA Hall of Fame podium is he doesn't get surgery at some point. Why are we holding on so tight for him?

knicksgirl35
knicksgirl35

@kofi  He showed up in the last Nets game of the season--INJURED. He is probably so angry about not going to the playoffs for the first time in his career. These bball players are human you know and allowed to have feelings.

kofi

On the post game Alan Hahn said Melo was in the building. I'm not guessing. Now did Dolan tell him to lay low? I don't know, but I don't believe he would prevent his star player from coming out and signing a few autographs. I believe you and Brookdom is missing my point. That was just a microcosm of the bigger issue....His unconscious selfishness.

lobcity
lobcity

Kofi.

Truthfully you're just guessing and assuming. What if Dolan told him to lay low and not speak to the media. The point is you're attacking him without any proof about anything you just said about him.

@akamarb That's why my head is picking the Nets but my heart says the Nets are opening themselves up to be knocked off as DWill isn't that good anymore and they are all overlooking the Raptors. Raptors have nothing to lose right now. They're the 3 seed, home advantage, and will be the under dogs in the series. All the pressure is on the Nets.

Yea I know. He said he was Knixtradamus.

The same guy who disappeared last season when the Knicks won 54 games and only showed up when the Knicks lost.

Pot is a drug - no matter what you think of it. Crack is a more potent one, of course. Both negatively impact a professional athlete's training and performance.

The last thing an undisciplined, unfocused team need is a walking distraction like Odom. The guy is not even a good basketball player at this point - why bother?

brookdon
brookdon

Marijuana and crack are two different things. Calling JR drug addicted is kind of unfair when a majority of NBA players smoke weed and only a handful ever get caught.

@knickster  lol i dont get why ur mad about the move...What did we give up? picks ? thjr? am i missing something here? was durant and lbj on the waivers or something??

thatsagoodpoint
thatsagoodpoint

@knickster Well yeah, if you don't want the Triangle to be here then they're not very good moves at all but, it's coming. With that in mind you will need to have guys who understand it. And again if it's only for a year then they are low risk/low reward. Anything past that I'd be much more critical of the signings.

knickster
knickster

I look at it the other way: given that phil jackson has very little room to maneuver, as you rightfully point out, every little move becomes a big one, an important one.

To me, the team has very little room for error.

BTW, i still think it's an error to force the triangle on this team. I would prefer a more open-minded approach, a la Pat Riley: develop a system that fits the roster, because it's much more efficient.

But like you say, Phil Jackson does deserve a chance at implementing his own vision - it's the fair, rational thing to do. Time will tell...

thatsagoodpoint
thatsagoodpoint

@knickster I'm certainly not turning a blind eye to it and it's certainly not low risk/high reward. It's low risk/low reward. I agree that we should be looking at more meaningful signings but those moves are not out there to be made right now.

That said, it's just too early to tell if this is a 'typical Knicks' signing PJ or no PJ as PJ does deserve a certain grace period to be allowed to bring in players that know the Triangle. So you can look at this move as further evidence of the Triangle coming here.

So yeah Brown and Odom may be scrubs or on the downside of their career but you really need to keep in mind that Phil Jackson still does not have an enormity of resources to work with. He inherited a bad cap situation so it really shouldn't come as a surprise that he's chosen familiarity in what small moves he can actually make.

So in closing, it's an inconsequential move. It would have been a terrible move if he was signed to anything longer than 2015 though.
