Until Compton started waiving Isles pom-poms I always liked him. So far, no critique of anything Islanders from him or Arnold.

Unlike Milbury I think Snow would hire a top coach. Milbury would never hire anyone who might threaten his job.

You guys are right. Wang hired Snow, OKd the hiring of Cappy. Wang is NEVER wrong so unless he develops a hockey brain....nothing will change. Paying off Cappy is no problem even for Wacky Charlie. Cap makes so little, the fans could chip in and pay him off. Problem is Wang will not bring a top coach especially now when a top name coach would get to speak to the new owners about what he thinks should be done.

Most you get is Weight or Cronin and don't be surprised if Cappy gets the Bridgeport job and Thompson is brought back as an asst.

Next two games odds:

Isles win both  50-1

Isles win 1 25-1

Isles get 1 point out of both games 10-1

Isles lose both even money

So now we listen to a podcast (which I enjoy) only to hear that if Isles play the way they did in the SJ game all will be OK. I'd like to think that as I am really ready to get behind these guys but all roads in my mind keep leading back to the coaching staff. Which by the way Garth assembled. I don't think this season is going to end up w/ the result of at least 2 rounds deep into playoffs(which I expected). As things are now I see Isles outside looking in. Maybe 1 or 2 spots out if all goes well say by 3pts or so. If the excuses are allowed to continue ie too many new players , too many injuries , bad bounces , no luck from hockey gods etc this season could end up just like the last 20yrs. No hope in sight & no 1st round pick to boot. I just hope someone w/in the organization will somehow change the losing culture we've all been accustom to for far too long. Nothing worse than a players coach when all is not going great. Think its time for a tough as nails coaching staff. Time to stop coddling these guys including the ones who were brought in to right the ship. Good coaches do little things like taking away perks in the dressing room. Stuff like that. Whatever is going on now for sure isn't working. Don't look now but Isles could be at the bottom of the division by the end of this trip.

How about Lee centering Kulimen and Grabovski?  He was center at ND, he could post up near crease and try to do deflections and bang in rebounds.  K &G could make up for defensive weakness.  The Nielsen between Bailey and Grabner.  Let the "4th" line watch and learn.

You're going to throw new lines together on a difficult road trip and expect them to play cohesively? All that had to be done was 1) move Conacher off the 1st line, and 2) Break up Hickey and Viz...both decent, but awful together! It's like having all forwards with no D! Also, we have Boychuck, Leddy, DeHahn, Viz, Hickey as our main Dmen. Not bad on paper...why a horror on the ice? Dare I say coaching?...System (or lack thereof)?

Why would you break up all the lines that have produced well? Hate to harp on it...but the coaching really stinks...not just Capi, but Weight and Cronin, and whoever else is in charge of PK, PP, Goalies! Right now, our best defense is a good offense. we can win 5-4, but we are NOT winning 2-1!

@dinbigd Let's not blame Snow for the coaching staff.  You don't think he would have liked to fire Cappy and replace him with Ruff or Laviolette?  He needs the green light from Wang to fire Cappy, pay him what's left on his contract and pay a real NHL coach.  When Cappy got the job he was supposed to be the interim coach until Wang realized he wouldn't have to pay a real coaches salary.  Do you really believe that there is another team in this league that would have let their coach survive the last 3 Novembers like Cappy has?  You don't think Snow knows that he has a much better chance of winning and keeping his own job with a real NHL coach?  The coaching staff is on Wang.  Everyone seems to forget that Snow doesn't get to run the team like a normal GM.  He had money this summer and did a great job bringing in players.

While we are on the subject of coaching:  Isn't it obvious that Dunham needs to go too?

@erika

Erika, you're right about having Viz, and Hickey as a pair, and Cappy is a moron, they are way to small to be paired together, opposing forwards skate through them like a hot knife through butter, utterly moronic decision by the clueless coach, I have said this since game 1.

@erika Halak seemed a lot better the last outing, all 3 goals were not his fault.  The defense has been better, with the exception of a few bad plays, that always seem to cost us a goal.  It's the offense that has become a real problem the last 6 games, with the lack of puck management and forecheck.  They need to chip and chase, and then cycle in the corners.  JT's line has no chemistry now with the constant revolving door on left wingers - Conacher, Kulemin and Nelson.  It should have been Nelson the whole time; we all knew it during the off-season.

We need to learn how to win 2-1, because we're not going to be successful in the playoffs winning with offense alone.
