Linval hoping for a long future in Blue

Impending unrestricted free agent DT Linval Joseph is lobbying hard to remain with the New York Football Giants:

Joseph will certainly draw some interest on the open market next month, should he get there. The Giants will likely make a pre-free agency offer to his agent to see how far apart the two parties are.

Of the top ten free agent defensive tackles on the market, Joseph is the youngest at 25. Many believe he will be lured away regardless of his wishes to stay a Giant.

The Giants are in a financial pickle right now, even after they make the hard cuts they plan on making. The consensus is that Joseph will command around $6 million per year. The Giants may not be able to fit him in.

From Conor Orr of the Star-Ledger:

While the Giants could be in line for some premiere pass rushers in the draft, Joseph’s versatility against the run and pass is difficult to ignore. His gap control and ability to create pressure from the interior is among the best in football.

Without him, the Giants would be left with an aging Cullen Jenkins, second-year defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins and Markus Kuhn.

Off-season To Do List For Reese:

Here are my suggestions for getting this team back on the winning side.

First: Free agency- Who We Keep, Who we bring in, and Who we draft.

Who we bring in-

Remember we got a new coordinator and I am convinced that smart money is on him bring in some of his guys so he is not teaching every single player a new scheme.

That being  said James Starks RB, Jermicheal Finley TE, Evan Smith C, and James Jones WR  make sense if the price is right. Plus they all fill in a need which helps us not burn draft picks.  Who wants to burn a first on a TE? Not me.

I terms of free agents outside the Packers Alex Mack C is the top Center so I would think about him and Mccluster RB and Return guy is a must.

Who to Keep:

Its simple Beason, Joseph, Tuck, and both Browns should be signed depending on price of course.  I would also bring back Ross and Bear and Mcbride.  As far as Thomas I would like him back but his comments about Sam were so immature that I if he left i would not be bothered.  Everyone else I would let walk including Nicks.

Who we draft:

Hard to predict the draft and harder to predict what follies Reese will make.  However, based on the free agent I think he should sign to fill needed holes before the draft here are some players the giants should look at on draft night.

1st round: Zach Martin OT/G, Taylor Lewan OT, Kelvin Benjamin WR, Mike Evans WR, Cyrus Kouandjio OT.

explaination: I put guys I thought would be there and guys worth a 12 pick based on how I think the giants value positions.  Meaning there are no Linebackers on this list and for good reason.  Even if they need one I would be shocked if they drafted one since that's just not what they do.  Now OT or WR these are valued positions by the giants.  I like Zach Martin who is smaller than the other OT's on the list but more polished and more versatile which is exactly the type of Offensive linemen Reese Likes.  Martin can play every position on the Line.  Why a WR? If you cant protect Eli give him bigger and better targets.  Both Evans and Benjamin are 6"5 athletic freaks.

2nd round: Xavier Filo (G), Loucheiz Purifoy CB, Stanley Jean-Baptiste CB,

Again more valued positions. I think by the third and fourth rounds we might see a running back or TE or LB.  But I think this draft in the beginning needs to be about protecting Eli.

Honestly, I would go Offense Line two rounds in a row the line is that bad. Take Martin and Filo 1 and 2. Then hope Stanley is in the 3rd.  I would then go LB in the 4th and RB in the 5th.

Michael Frias
Michael Frias

I would really hate to see him go, but I think he may have played himself out of the Giants price range.
