Buzz: Randle ahead of Beckham for No. 2 WR spot

We know Victor Cruz will play the majority of the snaps at WR this season for the Giants. Who will be his No. 2 is still TBD.

Third-year WR Rueben Randle is the favorite ahead of this year’s first-round selection, Odell Beckham Jr., Randle’s former teammate at LSU.

From Rotoworld:

The New York Daily News writes Rueben Randle “seems the favorite to start” opposite Victor Cruz in two-wide sets.
Randle “seems the favorite to start” over rookie Odell Beckham. The Giants are expected to essentially run a base three-wide offense under new OC Ben McAdoo, but “starting” in two-wide formations could mean the difference between playing 95 percent of the snaps, and 65-70. It’s certainly worth noting. Beckham missed time during OTAs with a hamstring issue, giving Randle an edge.

No surprise here. The coaches are high on Randle, who showed glimpses of becoming a reliable playmaker last season. Unfortunately for him, many remember his gaffes more than his big plays. Randle looked confused at times, running wrong routes and missing some assignments.

That could have been because the offense in general was disorganized. They played most of the season with a makeshift offensive line and a wafer-thin backfield.

Beckham is expected to get his chances, so don’t be too concerned about his playing time. The Giants will use him in the three-wides and in spots where they feel he will succeed. Rookies usually don’t win starting jobs in the realm of Tom Coughlin, but expect Beckham to play more than the normal rookie would.

I see the Giants, like most teams nowadays, running a lot of 3 WR sets, so with Cruz in the slot, does it really matter who the #2 and #3 WRs are? All 3 will pretty much be on the field for most passing downs.

Good stuff.  Cruz, Randle and ODB with a revamped O-Line... gotta like Big Blue's chances.
