“Explore everything.” That’s Jerry Reese’s mantra when it comes to scouting players. He’s holding to it as the Giants have reportedly met with embattled Notre Dame LB Manti Te’o.
From Eric Hansen of NDInsider.com:
Former Notre Dame All-America linebacker Manti Te’o met with his sixth NFL team, the New York Giants, on Thursday, per a source close to the Laie, Hawaii, product. And he’ll conclude his team visits in San Diego on Monday, when he’s scheduled to meet with the Chargers.
Questions are abound when it comes to Te’o. First, his ability has been questioned by many a pro scout and NFL GM. He is not a hot commodity any longer. The “fake girlfriend” fiasco has many scratching their heads on how mature he is and if he can handle life in the NFL.
Many teams are planning on passing on Te’o in the first round, not knowing what to expect from him in terms of how he would be accepted by his new teammates. Former Giant great Michael Strahan was asked by the Hollywood Reporter on how Te’o might be treated in an NFL locker room.
“They’ll accept him. Of course they’ll make fun of him — God, you gotta make fun of him, I’ll make fun of him! — but he just has to learn to just enjoy it and go along with it and have fun with it,” Strahan said, “because the guys ultimately want to win and they want to see you be a success because it helps the team and helps them.”
