Contract News: No Deal Yet Between Cruz, Giants

Giants’ WR Victor Cruz appeared on the air with WFAN’s Boomer and Carton this morning to shoot the breeze. He ended up talking some football and some turkey as well. Cruz revealed his contract negotiations were still ongoing but had nothing new to report:

“I think we’re still at the same spot. I think right now, I guess (the) front office is doing all the things they have to do. We got a ton of work to do, we have 22 free agents, a lot of guys that they have to make decisions on…..I mean, I’m fully aware of the deadlines, obviously. But they’re making the decisions they have to make up there and they’ll come to us.”

Cruz is eligible to become a restricted free agent when free agency begins March 12th. If no deal has been struck by then, the team can place a first-round tender on Cruz worth one-year at $2.879 million. It’s doubtful the situation will get to that point….

Three other Giants will receive raises this coming season thanks to reaching escalators in their contracts in 2012. WR Hakeem Nicks and OLs Chris Snee and David Diehl will all have their salaries bumped up this coming season.

According to our friends at Rotoworld.com, Nicks, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal, will see his base increase from $2.425 million to $2.725 million. Snee will go from $6.45 million to $6.7 million and Diehl, providing he does not agree to a pay cut or get released will earn  $4.475 million – up from  $4.1 million.
