Tom Coughlin officially began the Giants’ preparation for their trip to Washington this Monday night with his presser at TIMEX this morning. No major developments, which I believe at this stage of the season, is a good thing.
“The stage has been set,” the coach said when asked if his team could be in for a letdown. “It was a six-game schedule, now it’s s five. Every game is important. This is the most important game we’ve played all year long this Monday night.”
We’ve gone through why this game is so important. Win this, the Redskins go away and the pressure basically comes off. It will not be an easy game.
“They have a well-rounded football team,” Coughlin said of the 5-6 Redskins, who have won their past two games. Much of that due to their sensational rookie QB, Robert Griffin III who gave the Giants fits last month in their first meeting.
“He’s getting better, no question,” the coach admitted.
On what he saw in the 2 RBs (Kregg Lumpkin, Ryan Torain) signed this week: “Outstanding workouts and we’re in a need position there.”
Coughlin said it was a “possibility” that they could play this week, but they would begin focusing on scout teams but would see some offensive reps as well.
On David Wilson: “Ratchet it up, he’s ready to go.”
On if he believes Wilson is ready to go:
“He’s got to go. We’ve had people who have had to step up in the past when situations like this have arisen. We put a lot of responsibility on their shoulders and it’s time for him. He’s a first round draft choice, he’s a talented kid. He got some plays the other night, which was a good thing, so we go from there.”
S Kenny Phillips (knee): will not practice today “but we hope tomorrow.”
C David Baas (shoulder): will not practice today.
OL David Diehl had tests on his burner. “He’s sore” – not going to practice today.
LB Jacquian Williams (knee) will do individual. WR Domenik Hixon (ankle) will work today.
RB Ahmad Bradshaw: “Maybe we’ll use him a little bit, but not a lot” in practice today.
