Coughlin Stresses “Pride, Honor, Dignity” to Team

Tom Coughlin met the media this morning as his Giants prepare for the final regular season game of the 2012 season. He told reporters that his message to the team this week was “pride, honor, dignity…finish this season with a game we can all be proud of.”

Asked if he was proud of the team this season, he chose his words wisely to mask his disappointment.

“I’m proud of the individuals,” he said. “I’m not proud what’s been accomplished.”

He cut reporters off at the pass regarding any playoff talk: “My concern is we play an outstanding football game in the 16th game of the season.”

On the overall performance of the team: “Our defense is not stopping anybody and our offense is not holding the ball long enough…”

Coughlin pointed out field position as a barometer for the team’s success: “Our five best are all the top five field position games that we’ve played this year”.

He lauded the Eagles for their efforts over the past five games and expects a physical game.

On Michael Vick returning this week: “Michael Vick is their quarterback. Let’s get ready. What other reaction am I going to have?”

On if Vick will have more motivation since this will likely be his Eagles’ finale: “He’s well-rested. He’s ready to go…”

On this possibly being Osi Umneyiora’s Giant finale: “I hope that’s not the case. As I said all along, I would much rather play with Osi..”

DL Chris Canty (knee) will not practice. Neither will RB Ahmad Bradshaw (knee). On OL Chris Snee (hip) and C David Baas (hip, shoulder): “They may do a few things I’m not sure to what extent..”

DE Justin Tuck will be limited.
