Giants’ safety Stevie Brown has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the week for his Week 17 performance against the Philadelphia Eagles.
This is Brown’s second such honor this season (Week 8 was the other), making him the first safety in Giants’ history to named DPOW twice in the same season.
Brown had six tackles, two passes defensed and an interception returned for 48 yards in Sunday’s 42-7 victory over Philly at MetLife Stadium.
On the Eagles’ opening drive, Brown intercepted a pass at the New York 26-yard line and returned it 48 yards to the Philadelphia 26. Four plays later, the Giants scored to take a 7-0 lead, a lead they would not relinquish.
The interception was the eighth of the season for Brown, tied for the second most in the NFL and the most by a safety. Brown’s 307 interception-return yards were the most in the NFL.
Brown’s 307 interception-return yards are the most in a single season by a Giant in franchise history. Brown’s eight interceptions are the most in a single season by a Giants safety since Pro Football Hall of Famer Emlen Tunnell (8) in 1954.
