So, we have probably seen the beginning of the end for Michael Vick. He’s taken too many hits and turned over too many footballs in Philadelphia this year. It’s reasonable to think his time with the Eagles has come to a close.
Enter Nick Foles. Who? Nick Foles, the 6’6″, 245 lb rookie the Eagles drafted in the third round out of Arizona last April. After all the promise, Vick didn’t get the job done for Andy Reid and Co. Maybe Foles, the “anti-Vick”, can.
When Vick was knocked from the game last Sunday vs Dallas, Foles came in and the crowd lit up. They were hoping they would get to see him play this year. Now they have their wish. The Vick experiment was an on-field disaster – a car wreck, a fight that needed to be stopped. Foles is a breath of fresh air.
Foles had a productive debut (22/32, 219 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT) but got touched up himself. The Eagles’ line is not a quality one right now and Foles took two sacks, the second of which resulted in a fumble and a Dallas TD.
He will face off vs another rookie this week in Washington’s RGIII. We have seen what he can do first-hand. This matchup could be the first of many between these two heralded rookies. Foles starting in Vick’s place takes some pressure off of Reid and the Eagles. A fresh start will do that. The feeling here is that Foles is under center to stay. This game should be a fun one to watch.
Speaking of fun, Redskins’ head coach Mike Shanahan is enjoying this season, even if his team is only 3-6. He has RGIII and son Kyle is doing a excellent job with the offense. The future is bright in DC. Yesterday, Shanahan kept it light by beginning his presser wearing CSN Redskins insider Chick Hernandez’ chapeau.
