The National Football Post released its early summer 2013 top 20 fantasy wide receiver rankings today. The only New York Giants player appearing on the list is fourth-year wide receiver Victor Cruz, who comes in at No. 12, amid ongoing contract negotiations that have received much attention this offseason.
Cruz totaled a stat line of 86 catches for 1,092 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2012, without the benefit of having Hakeem Nicks on the other side of the field for three games. Despite falling short of the high expectations placed on him for last season, Cruz is expected to bounce back in a big way in 2013. That is, if Nicks is healthy and Cruz’s contract is settled before the season begins.
Nicks, who is absent from these rankings, was not even an honorable mention on the NFP’s list. This omission is a result of the current controversy surrounding Nicks’ contract, as well as his lingering foot injury, thus making him a risk for hardcore fantasy players.
Topping the list of the 20 best fantasy wide receivers for 2013 is Calvin Johnson of the Detroit Lions. Last season, he led all receivers in fantasy scoring.
