Tuesday Notes: No to Sanchez

John Fennelly, Lead Writer

A quick calm this morning after word spread late yesterday that the Giants had some “interest” in Mark Sanchez, the former embattled QB of the Jets.

From Bob Glauber via Twitter…Mark Sanchez to the Giants? Not likely. Said one team source: “Joe Namath before we sign Sanchez.”

The Philadelphia Eagles are said to be the most likely landing spot for Sanchez. Other teams showing legitimate interest are Cleveland, Tennessee and St. Louis. Why the Giants were mentioned as a possible suitor for Sanchez in the first place is beyond me.

The NFL handed out 32 compensatory selections to 13 teams in the upcoming NFL Draft. The Giants were awarded one – a fifth round pick. (READ) They are now back up to seven selections, having traded their seventh rounder to Carolina last October for LB Jon Beason.

The Jets and Ravens were both awarded four picks.

Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Pittsburgh and St. Louis earned three pick each. Cincinnati, Green Bay and Detroit got two apiece while the Giants, San Francisco and New England were awarded each one.

The 49ers received an extra 3rd rounder, giving them six picks in the first 100 selections. Unbelievable.

Quick question: Who is more dangerous with four extra draft picks – John Idzik or Ozzie Newsome?
