Tuesday Morning Notes: Reese still looking to add to roster

What you need to know this morning…

Free agency runs deep, as Jerry Reese reminds us. He’s far from done adding to his roster. The Giants currently have 75 players under contract and approximately $4.060 million in cap space.

The Giants will be working out QBs Josh Freeman and Matt Flynn at QDTC today. They will also host former Arizona Cardinals WR Laron Byrd. From Ebenezer Samuel of the Daily News:

The 24-year-old former Arizona Cardinal has one career catch, but he’s a tantalizing talent who can run a sub-4.5-second 40-yard dash, and also brings impressive size at 6-4, 220 pounds. But he’s just as unproven as most of the receivers already on the roster.

Former Minnesota Vikings DT Kevin Williams visited with the Giants yesterday. (Craig)

WR Sidney Rice was cleared by doctors and now has several suitors lined up. According to Rotoworld, the Giants are among them:

He got cleared by Dr. James Andrews. PFT’s Mike Florio reports the Seahawks, Giants, Saints, and Panthers all have “interest of some degree” in Rice, who has been incredibly injury prone in recent seasons but is still only 27 years old. He played college football at South Carolina and would be an excellent fit with the Panthers. Long-armed Rice has always possessed a large catch radius, which would complement Cam Newton’s somewhat erratic ball placement.

Rice would be a good sign on an incentive laden contract. His injuries have slowed him down, but he is still very serviceable when healthy.
