Head coach Tom Coughlin said he has agreed to a one-year extension on his contract (Cimini).
Coughlin, speaking at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, said the extension was “never a concern to me.” (Samuel)
This extension takes Coughlin’s contract with the Giants through the 2015 season. The Giants rarely allow a coach to go into his “lame duck” year of their contract.
In his career with the Giants, Coughlin has a 90-70 record (.563 winning percentage), and the team’s two recent Super Bowl championships.
John Fennelly, Lead WriterNo surprise here, as this was expected. The Giants and Coughlin are at the stage where their relationship, although still strong, is not going to include a long-term deal.
They will be giving him the Walter Alston treatment from here on in. For those of you unfamiliar with Walter Alston, he was the manager of the Dodgers for 23 years and never signed a contract for more than one season.
