Jim Mancari, ContributorUpset wins by the Browns and Bills coupled with the Redskins covering the spread cast a pall on my Week 4.
But at least I have a better overall winning percentage than the Giants.
Here are this week’s picks. I’ll be using the point spreads from Yahoo! Sports. Feel free to include your picks for these or any other of the week’s games in the comments section. Good luck!
Week 4 Record: 1-3
Overall Record: 6-10
Baltimore Ravens (+2.5) at Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins suffered their first loss of the season Monday night against the high-octane New Orleans Saints. But I’m expecting Miami to bounce right back at home. The Ravens have so many problems, and with Joe Flacco looking like Eli Manning with regards to turnovers, Miami should have plenty of chances to score. I’m banking on the Dolphins being able to win by at least a field goal.
Detroit Lions (+8) at Green Bay Packers
This is a huge divisional matchup, and I’m expecting a real war between two teams that do not like each other. Both teams have high-powered offenses, so I’m looking forward to plenty of scoring. It may come down to whoever has the ball last to determine the winner in this game. I can easily see the Packers getting the home win in this one, but I’m hoping that it will be by only a touchdown or less.
Denver Broncos (-8.5) at Dallas Cowboys
Plain and simple, the Broncos and Peyton Manning are unstoppable right now. You almost have to pick them, regardless of the spread. It was reported that Peyton and Eli spoke earlier this week. Eli was probably asking about how he can get back on track, but Peyton was likely focused on finding out from his younger brother what to expect from the Cowboys’ defense. The inept Giants’ offense put up 31 points against Dallas in Week 1, so that would mean that the Broncos are poised to put up at least 50.
Philadelphia Eagles (+1) at New York Giants
Being favored by just one point at home is really an insult, and the Giants deserve every bit of it. I actually think though the Giants will put up some points this week. Big Blue has given up a league-leading 146 points, but the Eagles are right there with 138. This is going to be a slugfest between Eli Manning and his offensive weapons and Chip Kelly’s fast-paced offense. Both teams are fighting for survival, and with this spread, it’s essentially a toss-up. I’m sticking by my Giants in this one.
