SNYGiants Week 14 NFL Picks

Jim Mancari, Contributor

I finished 2-2 last week to remain still a paltry 10 games under .500

I won with the Colts and Bengals. The Patriots won but did not cover, and I was a Giants’ touchdown away from covering the over on total points from that game.

Here are this week’s picks. I’ll be using the point spreads from Yahoo! Sports. Feel free to include your picks for these or any other of the week’s games in the comments section. Good luck!

Week 13 Record: 2-2

Overall Record: 21-31

St. Louis Rams (+6) at Arizona Cardinals

Again, since my chance at finishing over .500 this season is as likely as the Giants making the playoffs, I’m going to pick games that can actually have some sort of impact on the playoff seeding. At 7-5, the Arizona Cardinals are very much alive in the playoff hunt, but the problem is that there are only two wild card spots in the NFC. The Panthers/Saints (whoever doesn’t win the NFC South) and the 49ers look to be the wild card favorites, so the Cardinals need to win out pretty much to stay alive. At home against the Rams by a touchdown, I like those odds for Arizona.

Pick: Cardinals

Seattle Seahawks (+2.5) at San Francisco 49ers

The Seahawks have been dominating the NFL, and yet they are still underdogs on the road against the division-rival 49ers. San Francisco has lost a few tough games this year, but they are out to prove that they are just as strong as last year’s Super Bowl team. This is going to be a hard-fought battle against two of the game’s best defenses. It should be a low scoring affair, but the 49ers’ offense may have just enough weapons – as well as the home field advantage – to come away with a win.

Pick: 49ers

Carolina Panthers (+3) at New Orleans Saints

I don’t care how well the Panthers have played lately or that this is the biggest game for the franchise in several years. You don’t bet against the Saints at home. Carolina’s defense has been great, but still, Drew Brees on his home turf is a tough matchup. This should be another close, physical game, but I see New Orleans being able to pull it out.

Pick: Saints

New York Giants (+3) at San Diego Chargers

The Chargers are hanging onto their playoff hopes by a thread, while the Giants have an even slimmer chance than the Chargers to reach the postseason. But last week against the Redskins, the Giants proved that they have no quit. Going to San Diego is no easy task, but I believe the team rises to the occasion as it plays the role of spoiler. They’re at the point where they likely won’t get one of the top draft picks anyway, so you might as well finish out the season strong and build some momentum into next year.

Pick: Giants
