Geoff Schwartz

Schwartz likely to short-term IR

Geoff Schwartz will likely be placed on short-term injured reserve (Jones, Aug. 29).

If so, Schwartz would be able to return in Week 9.

Schwartz dislocated his toe in the preseason game against the Jets. He will be in a walking boot for another week, after which he will begin a rehab program, the Giants announced.

“After that, he will be evaluated on a week to week basis regarding his ability to return to football activities,” the team said.

It was previously feared that Schwartz could be lost for the season.

“This is just a minor setback,” Schwartz said in a release. “I plan on attacking the rehab program so I can get back on the field as soon as possible with my teammates and help us win games.”

Why put him on the IR vs PUP list?  Wouldn't he be able to come back sooner if he is placed on the PUP?

surprising it's this long... seeing coughlin during pressers this week, he looked relieved when talking about Schwartz... week 9 starts the gauntlet in the schedule, so Schwartz or no Schwartz, they are going to get crushed by Seattle and SF's defense.  Loooonnng year ahead of us.

@mlem ....  My thinking exactly. But there must be a major difference between PUP and IR. I'm thinking it probably has to do with getting an extra body on the roster versus having to live with a 53 man roster minus one player for six weeks. I don't know for sure.
