Pugh named to PFWA All-Rookie team

First-round pick Justin Pugh has been named to the Pro Football Writers Associated 2013 All-Rookie Team.

“My whole goal was just to contribute and help the team win in any way possible, if it was on special teams or as a starting right tackle,” Pugh said in a release. “I wanted to play my part and show these guys that I came here to play and play well.”

He started all 16 games at right tackle, the first Giants rookie to do since Barry Cofield in 2006 and first offensive lineman since David Diehl in 2003.

“You’re just showing the guys in this locker room that you’re reliable and this organization can count on you to go out there and play every snap, every week, and you take pride in that,” Pugh said.

No mention of short arms? We all know Fluker was the guy the GMen wanted but in the end it was Pugh. And they both outpaced the top 3 OTs that were selected. Looking at the all rookie team there were several mid rounders that would have looked good on the Giants.

Ironic that our biggest glaring hole is offensive line but it's the only spot where we get recognition in our 2013 rookie class.  I'm glad the Giants picked someone based on need for a change . . . seemed to work out just fine.  Now, we need to do it at least 2 more times in the first 3 rounds of 2014 . . . pick offensive linemen that is.

If I'm the Giants I'm picking Greg Robinson or Taylor Lewan at OT in the 1st round  . . . unless for some unknown reason Sammy Watkins drops into our laps.

Assuming we go OT in round 1 . . which is most likely . ..Robinson/Lewan will move over the LT spot and Beatty will go to RT . . . then we'll move Pugh to Guard.  Just like that, pow, this offseason will start to feel much better.
