NFL Preseason Gameday: Indianapolis at Giants

Last Week: The Colts were blown out at home, 44-20, by the Buffalo Bills. The Giants defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road, 18-13.

Series History: The Colts lead the series between the Giants, 8-6, entering Sunday’s game. The Giants are 0-2 against the Colts in the preseason. They last met in 1984 in Indianapolis when the Colts handed the Giants their only loss of the preseason, 26-20.

Their last regular season meeting was Sept 19, 2010 at Lucas Oil Stadium. Peyton Manning bested his little brother again, jumping out to a 24-0 halftime lead en route to a 38-14 Colts victory.

Players to Watch:

Colts: QB Andrew Luck enters his second season as a rising star, but his offensive line is in flux. He will be challenged by a Giant pass rush that will be all over him early and often….WR T.Y. Hilton is developing into a weapon, so he will put some pressure on the Giants’ rebuilt secondary. TE Coby Fleener (concussion) has been cleared to play and hopes to continue his longtime rapport with Luck…First-round pick LB Bjoern Werner has not broken into the starting lineup, but will see plenty of snaps tonight.

Giants: WR Hakeem Nicks will play and needs to show some progress tonight or people will begin talking…DE Damontre Moore broke out like a house on fire last week in Pittsburgh, but he missed practices this week with sore shoulder. If he plays, you won’t be able to miss him….RB Michael Cox is becoming the Giants’ new special teams ace and third RB…OL Justin Pugh, the Giants’ top pick in this year’s NFL Draft, makes his NFL debut. He is not expected to start, however.

Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is 0-6 lifetime vs the Colts.

Colts’ RB Ahmad Bradshaw was a seventh round selection of the Giants in 2007 and was a member of two Super Bowl Championship teams here (XLII and XLVI). He is sixth in Giants history in rushing yards, seventh in rushing attempts and ninth in rushing touchdowns… RB Davin Meggett ’s father, Dave Meggett, played for the Giants from (1989-94)

The Giants have three former Colts on their roster: S Stevie Brown, DB David Caldwell and QB Curtis Painter.

The Colts are celebrating their 30th anniversary in Indianapolis.
