NFL Draft: Ebron, Niklas are best TE fits for Giants

The Giants are in need of a tight end and NBCSports.com’s Josh Norris believes that either UNC’s Eric Ebron or Notre Dame’s Troy Niklas could be a good fit.

Ebron is highly touted and is ranked the top-rated TE, by many who believe he will not only be a a star but the top TE in the league.

Niklas is monster of a man (6’6″, 270) who is still learning the position. Nevertheless, he’s projected to be a top TE at the next level.

We need to find ourselves a blocking TE a la Kevin Boss or Jake Ballard and let that be that. We can't be wasting early round picks on projects. Just get a big ugly who can act as a 6th OL and catch a 5-7 yard pass. That's what works for Eli. He needs time in the pocket. And that's also how we can improve our run game.

Niklas will be a much better blocker while Ebron will be a much bigger receiver. I would rather have Niklas in the 2nd than Ebron in the 1st.

This just in....Ebron had a slight case of the dropsies during the Pro Day, apparently dropping three balls and "double-catching" another. That led to some analysts noting the high percentage of balls Ebron dropped in 2013.  Annnnnnnnnd now he is a second rounder.  Let's get this done!

My Mock:

1-Donald DT

2-Niklas-TE

3-JaWuan James- OT

4-Gabe Ikard -C

5-John Brown -WR

6-Dri Archer KR/RB

Now we have another 5th-Any DE would work there

Possible selections Zach Martin or Mike Evans:

I am convinced the giants go offense in the first and it's either give Eli a weapon or protect him. I realistically think one of these guys will be there when they pick. The top 3 tackles are gone and Martin is very versatile just like the giants love. Evans is also a big time weapon. I think the giants want to stay away from guys who won't contribute this year. Guys like Anthony Barr or Ebron or donald are a little too risky despite their talent they are flawed mainly because they have tweener written all over then which has gotten Reese in big trouble over the years. The guy I chose can can start day one.

This whole Ebron to the giants stuff is annoying because this is the sort of pick Reese would make this kind of "athlete pick."

The fact is this kid is a tweener. Too big to play WR but lack the essential attributes of what a TE needs to do namely blocking which he is not great at. He also drops ball so so much for safety net. More like a spent with holes.

Second, TE is so overvalued right now and 12 is just too high for the position. If you take a tight end this high your saying he starts day one. Yet if he can't block he shouldn't even be on the field. This was the same problem with Wilson at running back he couldn't get on the field because he couldn't block. I would much rather take Niklas in the second than burn a first on Ebron unless we are trading down significantly.

Since the TE position is deeper than the DL position in this year's draft. It would make sense to me for the Giants to draft a DL in the 1st round and possibly a TE in the 2nd or 3rd rd. Giants have needs at the TE and DL positions, along with WR and OL. This is a deep draft (all rounds) and the Giants will have 7 picks to make an impact to their roster.

How can we ALREADY have a BEST Fit TE,

for a OFFENSE that DOESN'T EXIST ???!!!???

a OFFENSE who's TE Role, is Completely Speculation .....

... further-more,

to CROWN TE Ebron,

as the BEST TE in the LEAGUE, 2014.... is worry sum........

By PLAN or FATE,

a WhirlWind, Free Agency---

Has Filled  MANY holes,

but Deficiency are in 3 Major Positions...

DT --- DE --- C

............ this kinda SMELL's like,

Jerry "REESE" Rigged,

Early PASS-RUSH Draft.....

@gigantes  ..... Would actually love it if he fell to the 2nd round. That would make picking him there a literal steal.

No Donald!! 6"0 280 pound DT Tweener city. This guy has boom or bust all over him. This sort of pick will get Reese fired but maybe that your intention with that selection especially when a guy like Hegman a 6"7 best at DT is available and fits the bill a lot better.

For the most part I agree with you which is why I like Lewan in the first round. I think he's a guy that could help us right away. I am really hoping he's still there at number 12. Donald would be an interesting pick, but he would be considered one of those "tweeners" that you mentioned so he may not be able to hit the ground running and be an impact player in the short term. No more projects please. We need players, NOT projects.

JJ and Randle are no guarantees at WR. In particular JJ, he had a few good games but in Cruz' spot. I'm not sold. Randle and Eli had a lot of mistakes in routes. Hopefully the new offense can incorporate simpler routes and such. IMHO The starting DL rotation is set - JPP, Jenkins, Hankins, Moore, Kiwi and Kuhn. The need for depth and a dominate end/tackle would be nice. But outside of Clowney, neither is the type that is worth a top 12 pick. Now is where I insert Mike Evans' names. His skill set...oh never mind.

@jaymanjay I think your assessment of Donald is premature. This kid reminds me of a Hall Of Famer who was once considered a boom or a bust as you put it. many teams didn't give this future HOFer a chance. Luckily, the Minnesota Vikings took a chance on him and this player became a solid DT for many years; which ended with his induction into the HOF. I'm sure you already know that I'm referring to John Randle. Donald has so many characteristics of Randle that you would think they are father and son. So don't dismiss this kid so soon. I think if he is drafted anywhere in the 1s from #12 to #20, it would be a great pick for the team that selects him.

Donald is 6"0 280 DT that is a boom or bust type selection. Reese has to stay away from these type of risks.

Evans at 1...and if by some miracle Ebron is there at 2...that's called a coup.
