Giants will use Rodgers-Cromartie on best receivers

Tom Coughlin said that the Giants will use newly-signed Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie as the team’s No. 1 cornerback, covering the opposing team’s best receiver.

The Giants and Rodgers-Cromartie agreed to a five-year deal in mid-March (Schefter, March 17). The deal is reportedly worth $35-39 million, with $15 million guaranteed (Vacchiano, March 17Schefter, March 17).

The 27-year-old had 31 combined tackles and three interceptions for the Broncos in 2013, returning one for a touchdown.

DRC has the speed and ball skills to cover any WR, but he is just one of the worst tacklers I have ever seen. Broken/busted plays on his part result in big chunks of yards for opposing WRs. He will have a hard time covering some of the stronger WRs like Dez. Hopefully Tom drills some fundamentals into his head in minicamps. I think some time with Champ last year might of helped as well.

Any stats to show how DRC heals up against the top WR in the NFC East?
