Giants-Steelers Notes and Trends

The Giants (6-2) will host the Pittsburgh Steelers (4-3) at MetLife Stadium tomorrow at 4:25pm.

The Giants have won 4 of the last six games in the series and hold the overall advantage over the Steelers (44-28-3). The teams first met on September of 1933 when the Steelers were known as the Pirates. They changed their name to the Steelers in 1940. Since the Steelers moved to the AFC in 1970, the teams have faced each other only eight times and only four times since 1994.

Combined, the Steelers and Giants have ten Vince Lombardi trophies and have won four of the past seven Super Bowls.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is 0-1 against the Giants, but 16-6 overall against the NFC. Giants’ coach Tom Coughlin is 9-8 lifetime vs the Steelers. With a win in this game, Coughlin will tie former Steeler coach Bill Cowher for 17th place on the all-time regular season victory list with 149.

This game features two of the three active quarterbacks who have won more than one Super Bowl in Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger and the Giant’s Eli Manning. This is the second time in as many matchups between the two teams that the Giants come into the game as the defending World Champions.

Manning has won his last eight games vs AFC teams, including SB XLVI. He and Roethlisberger each have 28 game-winning drives, including playoffs. Ben has a 24-7 record against the NFC and has had three games this season in which he registered a passer rating of 120 or better. Manning is starting his 138th consecutive game for the Giants, the most of any active NFL QB.
