Giants select S Nat Berhe

NCAA Football: Poinsettia Bowl-Brigham Young vs San Diego StateWith the No. 152 pick of the NFL Draft, the Giants selected safety Nat Berhe out of San Diego State.

Berhe, a 5-foot-10, 193 pound, led San Diego State in tackles during the 2012 and 2013 seasons with 94 and 99 tackles, respectively. After redshirting during the 2009 season, Berhe played in 12 games during the 2010 season and had 39 tackles with four pass breakups, one interception and one tackle for loss. Berhe started in all 13 games during the 2011 season and spent the first 13 games at the “Warrior” position before playing at “Aztec,” a combination safety-lineback position, for the final seven games. He stayed at “Aztec” during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Berhe. who was a 2013 team captain, was named to the All-Mountain West first team for defense in his last year with San Diego State.

Scouts say that he has strong instincts and reacts quickly. They also point out that he has a light frame and can take some bad angles. NFL’s draft projector had Berhe going in the fourth or fifth round.

“I just play … with a lot of anger,” Berhe said ager he was drafted. “I try to take people’s heads off. I think that’s how the safety position should be played.” (Orr, May 10).

Yuck! Wouldn't be shocked if he doesn't even make the team. Which as a 5th Rd Pk on a team with this many holes is awful.

So sick of Reese's draft once again another REACH.  Reese cares nothing for value simply his own board. He drafts players in a vacuum without any regard for the market. why do we need an undersized hybrid LB/S WHY!!! Reese hasn't changed at all.

He has one thats right one value selection in this draft in the Center everyone else he could have trade down and gotten more selections.  Maybe Ill give him Beckham he is really good and because the Jets probably would have taken him so Beckham was not a complete reach But Reese continues his late round bad negotiation of the draft.

@Brian Webster  ....  For a team that was so terrible in sacks last season and trending downward the last three years, it's surprising Reese has done nothing to address the line other than add a 20th ranked DT from Syracuse who won't exactly improve the pass rush at all.

@Brian Webster  But he was a Captain of his college team so the Giants draft him.

@jaymanjay  .....  I would argue that Berhe isn't big enough to even be considered a LB. He's under 6' and weighs 193 lbs. He's simply not a player who would be a "thumper". More of a nickle back, centerfield-type player. At best, an Antrelle Rolle-lite. We could use a Safety, but I would have preferred a DE like Chris Smith from Ark who was available at the time we picked.

@Skookaloop  .... Considering how much Reese loves LSU, surprised they didn't go in that direction.

@mrfurley  .... They will lose Will Hill. Another suspension coming.

@drewc Yeah the Giants are going for character instead of skill and ability. With there picks it seems they talk as much about what they have going on for themselves off the field as on. Glad to know they have something to fall back on when they crap out of the league in a couple years at least I guess.

Yeah, 6' 193", not my kind of size for a safety in the new bigger, stronger NFL. You can't have canaries playing with hawks, falcons and buzzards...

@fast_eddie @jaymanjay  ....  I like it!  You should trademark that name... Jerry Reach....lol

@drewc @spider43 Jermichael FInely is still available. Maybe they take a chance and sign him if he's healthy and good to go

@drewc @spider43 They should've taken 1 of the top TEs in the 2nd Rd like Amaro or Niklas. Or even DE Tuitt. Then perhaps the C could've still been there in the 3rd Rd and Bromley could've definitely still been around in the 5th instead of Berhe.

@Brian Webster @drewc  I guess they will never shoot themselves in the leg in a club but will they make the team?

@fast_eddie @spider43 @jaymanjay  Dude the Jets chose Pryor round one who was 5'10" 207 pounds. Not a huge size difference to me. This guy can gain 6-10 pounds. Its just too early to tell guys that's all. The only guy from today that will contribute this year is the RB as a full time starter.
