Berhe, a 5-foot-10, 193 pound, led San Diego State in tackles during the 2012 and 2013 seasons with 94 and 99 tackles, respectively. After redshirting during the 2009 season, Berhe played in 12 games during the 2010 season and had 39 tackles with four pass breakups, one interception and one tackle for loss. Berhe started in all 13 games during the 2011 season and spent the first 13 games at the “Warrior” position before playing at “Aztec,” a combination safety-lineback position, for the final seven games. He stayed at “Aztec” during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Berhe. who was a 2013 team captain, was named to the All-Mountain West first team for defense in his last year with San Diego State.
Scouts say that he has strong instincts and reacts quickly. They also point out that he has a light frame and can take some bad angles. NFL’s draft projector had Berhe going in the fourth or fifth round.
“I just play … with a lot of anger,” Berhe said ager he was drafted. “I try to take people’s heads off. I think that’s how the safety position should be played.” (Orr, May 10).
