Giants pre-draft visits, workouts

For those interested, here is an unofficial running list of players that have visited with the Giants per Pro Football Talk. Some players worked out, others just visited.

Washington State safety Deone Bucannon.
Boston College linebacker Steele Divitto. [Worked out]
Marist defensive end Terrence Fede. [W]
Rice cornerback Phillip Gaines.
Virginia-Lynchburg cornerback Keith Lewis. [W]
Maryland cornerback Dexter McDougle.
Monmouth tight end Mike McLafferty. [W]
Purdue offensive tackle Kevin Pamphile.
Colorado State center Weston Richburg. [W]
Bloomsburg (Pa.) defensive end Larry Webster.

Michigan OT Taylor Lewan was also at QDTC this week for a visit. Somehow, I think there are more players who have been in for at least a visit. Could be, but it doesn’t really mean the Giants have any more interest in these players than ones that don’t visit.

It's the best real case scenario trade out there, Knicks aren't getting Cousins.  Bledsoe is better than jennings, lawson or collison.   If no Russell or Jah...you gotta Trade down and start filling holes.   However, i'm not burning down MSG  with Mudiay at 4 he could be a really good back-up pg this year, still need someone with experience at the 1 spot to make a serious run.  If Knicks draft Porgi, you can bet that they are trading down.

I am just curious if something like this could take place.

Nuggets get #4 pick

Kings get PG Ty Lawson

Knicks get picks #6 and #7.

Knicks have to select someone and then they can trade their selection

It's been rumored the Nuggets want Mudiay or Porgi...George Karl reportedly wants Lawson in Sacramento, probably not but potentially???  Doesn't seem like enough for Sacramento or Denver.  Maybe if the Knicks threw in THRJ to Sac.

Who do the Knicks go 6 & 7?  Mudiay to Denver, Porgi goes 5th...

WCS and Justice....

getting two top 10 picks greatly increases chances of getting a stud.

Now they're talking about Willie cauley-stein has an ankle injury and he might slide down to draft board. Via Chad Ford

Keith Schlosser: "Phil Jackson said on Tuesday that he didn’t believe the Knicks had sufficient assets to acquire Cousins. This would suggest Jackson may not want to deal the fourth overall pick to acquire him."

No, it doesn't suggest THAT.  It suggests that it will take more than the no. 4 and that we don't have much to trade beyond that.  Phil never suggested that he didn't want to trade the no. 4 for him.

If i am the knicks i would be a little shaky with this trade. The suns are known around bball as having one of the best training and medical staff in the game!!!!! they got Grant Hill healthy enough to play after years of ankle problems to the point were he was about to retire. he went on after working with them to have many good years!!!! they didnt sign Amare because they knew his knees would not hold up for a max deal. bledsoe has had alot of knee problems at an early age buyer BEWARE!!!!!!

@mrxman good point. I just have an indelible imprint of Bledsoe taking apart the knicks mercilessly..then again a lot of guys did that.

I can't wait for Jackson to b e done with the draft and free agency so he can take a vacation and there will be no real reason to follow the team this season.

@hashbury I do not understand all this negativity. This man has been around basketball all his life. He has coached great teams, understands players and has 13 rings. No other person in this planet has achieved more that him.   You should have some faith in his decision making.

hashbury
hashbury

@demetra @hashbury Nope.  He is off to a horrible start, taken advantage of by better GMs and seems totally disengaged, not to mention borderline senile.  He looks to be living in the past and not acknowledging what today's NBA is about.  And he has no one in his management team that remotely shouts confidence.  He thinks he is always the smartest guy in the room, and without Michael, kobe and company, there is nothing that suggests he is some great mind.  And 2 rings with the Knicks?  What does that prove, exactly?

@hashbury @demetra

Don't see him off to a horrible start at all because when he traded Tyson for draft picks, one of them being Early, every scout saw it as steal for the Knicks as a second round selection with first round potential. Add Calderon to the mix and you have veteran shooter who can run a team, Larkin as potential upside pg after his showing with the Cannes, for the 34th pick (Early), the 51st pick (Thanasis, who averaged over 12ppg for the 87ers and West-Knicks, showing a smooth ability to drive) and the 57th they got in trade in which they selected Laberyie who could be another huge find and depth player. This for player whose Knick days were behind him in Tyson and for whom wouldn't have commanded that return this offseason had he not been traded. But all is somber in knickland because these picks and players acquired didn't make the impact many had hoped considering that the team assembled last offseason was supposedly 8th seed worthy.

So I wouldn't fault Phil for bringing in players he could develop for the future.

Next is the Shump and JR trade. What else is there to say. Shump averaged 6 ppg per game and JR was inconsistent as they come, contributing to a poor team as key veteran faces for the Knicks. Could they have gotten more? Maybe. But instead he got two hustle players in Admunson and Thomas, who at one point gave the Knicks hope for the 8th seed when playing alongside of Melo before the AS break and before his eventual season ending operation. Throw in Alex Kirk who now have a Summer League invite and you have three names who can add bench depth for 2015-16.

Phil did well there.

The prigioni trade. A late 30s Prigioni for basically future draft picks and Shved. You add future picks we didn't have at that time and a revelation in Shved who average over 10ppg a game, showed great passing skills, DRIBBLE DRIVE abilities and who can shoot and would say another good haul for Phil.

Let's not forget about the Galloways and Ledos of the world. Galloway displayed heart and the ability to become a good depth pg on a competitive team who is under contract for next season at  a reasonable price tag. Ledo to me is as big as Shved. These two guys the Knicks need to hold on to at any cost. Both talented and have the knack to go to the basket. Ledo showed dribbling skills, ball penetration and good shooting, and is only 23. To me he has at much or more upside than Mudiay and Russell, because you saw the potential on a big stage. Give him time and adjust and he could be a steal. Good moves by Phil.

Add the 4th pick and possibilities of trades and FA signings with a healthier and rested Melo and the Knicks can be really, really good.

@towlie22 @BronsonSNY @hashbury @demetra Nothing rosy it's reality. Nothing I've said in that piece was fantasy, or sources, or what if. It's reality. So much so that I've tried to break it down for those reading. If you feel different, that's you. But in my honest opinion people are looking for things to frown upon. It's a new year. New management. Freed up money. All isn't lost. The Knicks can be a strong team by time the Summer League. You have guys like Thanasis and probably Labryie soon coming over; guys like Alex Kirk who looked good in the D-League and is probably to step up contribute to a team. FA agency starting. I'm not the rosy one, I'm just not one to look at everything negatively because the GM and president didn't turn nothing into something overnight. I can't see how what I said is rosy; but I expect that from people who have a negative mindset.

Why would the Suns do this deal? Giving up the 13th is like robbery for the Knicks. Stay focus Phil you're all over the place. Just keep hyping the Latvia guy and hope Philly bites and take him leaving Russell for the Knicks.

cj1786
cj1786

@Boozer32 You have to remember the Knicks cannot technically trade their pick.  So the Knicks will at the very least know who drops to them before they agree to any deals.

Bledsoe, Shved, Carmelo, Morris, Monroe

All these players can, defend, rebound, score and pass the ball!

@demetra Morris, you mean Randolph Morris?  (Zekes supplementary lotto pick:)

who's Morris?

demetra

The Bledsoe trade makes sense for us if the Suns get  Calderon  and his 7.5 mil contract. This transaction will leave a cap space of  21-22  million to sign  another big name free agent. Ideally we would like one of the Morris brothers to be included with Bledsoe. In that case the starting five could look like;

Bledsoe

Shved

Carmelo

Morris

Monroe

Not bad at all

starksoakmase
starksoakmase

@demetra not bad, and not great either, not a very good defensive team. no shot blocking presence.

swankwan

@demetra hved is 3 million on the cap...

Am i the only one that doesn't like the idea of Monroe paired with Melo...doesn't feel right.  It seems like it's a done deal but i think Milsap is a better fit next to Melo in the Triangle, plus he hustles on D and boards pretty good for a 6'8' guy.  Really hope Jah drops and Knicks Sign Paul Milsap.  I understand Monroe is younger and more skilled in the post, but Milsap has the intangibles that seem to fit well with the triangle and the current wing centric landscape of the league.  Maybe Monroe and Milsap could booth be signed...play Monroe at the center (he actually plays better at the 5).  Food for thought.

This would be the deal of the century if they can pull it off.

brad5614

Umm yes... Bledsoe is better than anyone in the draft right now.. Some of these guys may become all stars but most won't ... Bledsoe is only 25 and his knees are no where near wades... He is a legitimate two way player that can create his own shot... Melo has never played with someone as young and talented... Bledsoes contract is team friendly at 14 m per year and him and say trey lyles or looney would help more than the 4 pick which is not a guarantee... It's very difficult to project a 19 yr olds career and the Knicks have several holes to fill not one or two.. If you can acquire Bledsoe and a pick you do it in a second

@brad5614 this.  this is the worst knick roster of all time. there are many, many needs--trade down and fill a couple needs instead of one. and, yes, there's a great chance a guy you draft never even gets to the level of Bledsoe.

Ralph Lewis
Ralph Lewis

Suns are not trading Bledsoe and 13th pick for 4th pick. Not in this draft. The 13th pick could be as good as the 4th in this draft. New York fans are insane. Dream on!

It'll be great when this dysfunctional front office does whatever it is they are going to do and the team starts getting beat over and over.

@sam speigelman......are you seriously tryna sell us on Bledsoe bein better than D.Russ or Mudaiy......PLEASE STOP! All metrics add up to D.Russ bein the best player in the draft and if im not mistaken, hes the only player Phil got fined for speakin about.......so lets make a small wager.......I bet if Okafor is gone and if D.Russ is still available Knicks will not trade that pick

Anthony Gaetano DeCesare
Anthony Gaetano DeCesare

Its a moot point because neither Russel or Okafor will be available come the knicks pick at 4.

starksoakmase
starksoakmase

@Kvdaone obviously, they will take Russell, I hope this guy Sam isn't dumb enough to think otherwise, but he will almost certainly be gone. We have absolutely no idea how Mudiay compares to bledsoe though.....

1harris1
1harris1

@Kvdaone I agree with you.  If Russell is there, I don't think the Knicks trade the pick.  I still think 1-3 though will be Towns, Okafor and Russell.

F Reid
F Reid

Trade makes sense for the Knicks, less so for the Suns since they traded Dragic and Isiah Thomas to give Bledsoe the job!

swankwan
swankwan

@starksoakmase @F Reid Word on the street is that the Suns love Knight.  they are over the 2 PG system.   Bledsoe was backup to CP3, he doesn't want  the 6th man role, i'm sure hes expressed this to his agent and the Suns.

Brian Hopkins
Brian Hopkins

I'd prefer Mudiay over Bledsoe because of the surgery he went through a year or so ago. It might be awhile (5+ years) but I think Bledsoe won't age well almost like Dwayne Wade now.

@Brian Hopkins A. You draft Mudiay hoping and praying he gets to Bledsoe's level.  B. You only have a couple years left of Melo under the hill so you must win now--not in 3 years when the rookie develops.  C. this is the worst knick roster ever and trading down to get a couple players makes a ton of sense.

towlie22
towlie22

@Brian Hopkins  No Knick decisions should be based on Carmelo "I have to play in the All Star Game because of my shoe contract" Anthony, after hearing that given the chance I'd trade Anthony. But I would do this trade. As for the surgeries Wade was great for a lot of years before the knees became an issue. Plus comparing Bledsoe and Wade's injuries is a silly endeavor without current MRIs of Bledsoe to compare to Wades from  seven years and two championships ago, and a board certified orthopedist to evaluate them.

You only do this if Russell is off the board.
