Giants injury updates from Coughlin

Tom Coughlin had a conference call with reporters on Sunday after the team’s third preseason game to update the news on injured players.

  • S Cooper Taylor has an injury to the seismoid bone in his left foot. Coughlin calls it “significant” and says he’ll be out “quite a bit of time.”
  • CB Prince Amukamara still has to undergo an MRI on his injured groin. I’m told they believe it’s a strain, but Coughlin is “concerned” it could still sideline him for a little bit
  • OT Charles Brown has a shoulder injury. His status is uncertain, Coughlin said.
  • DT Markus Kuhn hyperextended his elbow, but Coughlin sounded hopeful he wouldn’t miss much time.

Coughlin would not confirm whether Taylor is headed to IR or not. Taylor was being counted on to be the Giants’ fourth, or possibly even third safety. He is currently Antrel Rolle’s primary backup at SS. Rookies Nat Berhe, Thomas Gordon and CJ Barnett will get long looks this week against the Jets.

Prince has a history of prolonged absences due to injuries, so this news isn’t good. Let’s hope he’s just out a week a or so.

Brown is important to the Giants’ as their backup LT behind Will Beatty, who just returned to game action last night. James Brewer is the likely candidate to take snaps behind Beatty in Brown’s absence.

Kuhn is a key cog in the Giants’ DT rotation, but this injury does not appear to be a long term thing. The Giants have several versatile lineman who can step in and take snaps at DT.

Shame for Taylor, as he seemingly has made progress this summer. Depending on how long he's out for, can they use the IR with a chance to return tag? or do you save that for a key starter only?

@GiantsTalkLine that offense really isn't making me feel good about our chances at all unless we're going to put the #2 quarterback in
