Giants Free Agency: Day Three Recap

John Fennelly, Lead Writer

Day three of free agency begat some mild surprises for the Giants and their fans. Defensive captain Justin Tuck left the Giants after nine seasons for Silver and Black pastures, signing a two-year, $11 million deal with the Oakland Raiders.

The Giants brought back FB Henry Hynoski to a one-year, $1 million contract. He had several meetings with the Lions, but he ended up back here.

The particulars of LB Jon Beason’s contract were disclosed. He’ll get $19 million over three years, with $7 million guaranteed with $12 million to be paid out over the first two years.

Backup QB Curtis Painter’s deal is believed to be around the veteran minimum. Pat Traina reported the contract to be one year at $795K with a 65K signing bonus.

Several players the Giants had interest in all chose to sign elsewhere. TE Andrew Quarless signed back with the Packers. DB Tracy Porter is headed for Washington and WR/KR Ted Ginn, Jr. decided to accept an offer from Cardinals.

Former Giant WR signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears.

WR Hakeem Nicks has gone on tour. Nicks will be in Indianapolis Friday and hopes to make trips to San Diego and Carolina soon.

I'm ok with what the Giants have done this off season.  Let Tuck go for taht money.

Everyone knows Pettigrew and Finley are available for TE. But recent developments had the Texans cutting Owen Daniels for cap relief. He might be a pretty good alternative for TE. He'd certainly give better production with Eli throwing to him than his former QB Matt Schaub. If he could put up good numbers with Schaub, he'd only be better with Eli.

By the way, has there been a resolution to the Obrien Schofield signing by the Giants?  Is he still on the team, or did Reese rescind the 2 yr/ 8M offer Schofield signed?  Or has the offer been reduced and accepted?

Now it's about sifting through the debris to find something worth keeping after things have cooled down a bit.  Maybe a proven TE or OLB, or WR.  Baring anything astonishing, JR will go Corner in the 1st, either WR or Guard or DE in 2nd, and who knows...

@spider43  Owen Daniels failed his physical, I believe. Schofield's deal was killed after the Giants' doctors questioned the integrity of his knee. They could revisit him down the road, but I haven't heard anything yet.

@Joseph Bulger III  They still have a few moves left in FA. Also, they usually find a player or two after the draft in the UDFA market
