Friday News and Links: Lewan, Yankey on Giants’ radar

The NFL Combine interviews began Thursday with offensive linemen, kickers, punters, long snappers, tight ends meeting the media. Friday, quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers go before reporters.

Defensive linemen and linebackers go Saturday and defensive backs are up on Sunday. Giants head coach Tom Coughlin will hold a Q&A at 12:45 p.m. today.

Michigan OT Taylor Lewan was measured at 6-foot-7 1/8 and 309 lbs. He’s certainly a sizable asset for any team to put on their O-line. On Thursday, Lewan spent some time explaining away the sexual misconduct rumors and accusations following him out of Ann Arbor. (Rock)

Conor Orr of the Star-Ledger writes Stanford OL David Yankey could be just what the doctor ordered for the Giants’ offensive line:

“The 6-5, 314-pound offensive lineman, who had a meeting with the Giants on Wednesday, knew he had a different makeup coming into the NFL Draft. He’s rated as the top guard in his class despite coming out a year early. He has scouts paying close attention to his technique to see if it matches his natural power.”

Ebenezer Samuel of the Daily News reports that Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett is pleased to be bringing in Mike Pope as his new TE coach:

“Mike Pope is a great football coach,” Garrett said. “I had the good fortune of being able to be around him for four years with the Giants and he’s really as good a coach as I’ve been around in my career. I saw it up close and personal with a lot of different guys, established players and young players. He’s a great friend, a great addition to our staff.”

Yankey is definately an interesting OG prospect. If Reese can grab him in the second round and draft the BPA with the team's first round pick, I'd be ecstatic!

I'm getting the feeling that a really good player is going to slide to Reese at 12.

This may also be the year to trade back since this draft has been categorized as one of the deepest in years.

Lewan has definately boosted his stock with his impressive showing at the NFL Combine.

He ran a 4.84 40 yard and put up an impressive time in the short shuttle. Reese will be lucky if Lewan is available with the 12th pick.
