Former Packer WR Jones could fit with Giants

It’s being reported that WR James Jones will not be back with the Packers in 2014. He could be a free agent target of the Colts and/or the Chargers, two teams in need of a veteran presence at WR.

From Rotoworld:

The Packers have made it clear that they’re going to move forward with Jarrett Boykin as their No. 3 wideout, allowing Jones to walk. The Colts certainly have a need with 35-year-old Reggie Wayne coming off a torn ACL and only unproven LaVon Brazill/Da’Rick Rogers behind T.Y. Hilton. The Chargers are equally thin behind Keenan Allen. Jones would have a chance to step in as the No. 2 wideout in plus passing schemes in both locales.

The Giants are also in need of a veteran (or reliable) wideout with Hakeem Nicks moving on. Jones is very familiar with the ways of the offense Ben McAdoo is installing here in New York. If healthy, Jones could be a fit with the Giants.

Jones is 29 and served more as a possession receiver in Green Bay than a deep threat. He is, however, a solid red-zone wideout, something the Giants have been lacking. After scoring 14 TDs in 2013, Jones hit paydirt only three times last season although he did rack up a career-high 817 yards receiving.

To be fair, a PCL sprain at midseason caused him to miss two games, plus the absence of Aaron Rodgers in the second half of the season also hurt his production. We believe the Giants will give Jones a look and – if the price is right – extend him an offer.

As it is looking more & more as though Nicks won't be back, I think Jones would be a solid fit. He is familiar with MacAdoo's schemes & was pretty productive with the Pack, especially catching TDs. I feel as though he was a product of a great QB more than being a good WR, but Eli also has the tendency to make WRs look good. Nevertheless, I'm not sold on Randle being a capable, consistent WR in this league & if Nicks leaves, they are going to need a serious upgrade at the position. Jones would be a start, but I'd like to see them take a flier on the kid from FSU - Kelvin Benjamin - if he's still there when they pick in the first round. At 6'5, 240 lbs, he brings size to the position that Eli hasn't had since Plaxico shot himself. I see Benjamin being ranked 4-5 in available WRs in this draft & I think that is seriously undervaluing him. It's no question the OL needs people, but I don't see Reese spending back to back 1st round picks at the same position. The only player at the OL I would consider taking when the Giants pick is Taylor Lewan, if he's there. Any pick before 32 is too soon to draft a guard or center. I wouldn't want to be Jerry Reese if both Benjamin & Lewan are there at pick 12. Pretty tough decision.

On April 12, 2011 Britt was arrested in New Jersey on three counts (including a felony) following an alleged car chase with police. The charges were later reduced.[8] On June 7, Britt pled guilty to careless driving and was fined.[9] On June 8, 2012, Britt was arrested in Hoboken, NJ, charged with resisting arrest.[10] On January 13, 2013, Britt's close personal friend was involved in a stabbing, and reportedly drove him to the Jersey City Medical Center. When police attempted to ask Britt about the incident, he was allegedly not willing to cooperate. The incident marks the ninth time Britt was involved with police since he joined the NFL.

The giants were hot on Britt but tenn grab him and we took nicks. Personally I'd like to see the money spent on OL in the off season and draft a big bodied WR like Evans in the first round. Yes we need veteran wr's but it's not like Cruz jerrigan or randle are rookies. I'd like to shore up the line and let a rookie grow under Eli

Even as i type this i have mixed feelings, but...i wouldn't mind if the Giants kicked the tires on Kenny Britt, yes, he's injury prone, but he's a big, young target that catches touchdowns when he's on the field (19 of his 157 career receptions went for tds), for the right price i think he could be a nice target for Eli in the red zone

@Brian Bannon  Britt will not likely be a Giant although he's a local guy and has a ton of talent.  Since joining the NFL, Britt has had nine run-ins with police. Unless he's a completely changed person and has matured overnight, the Giants will not be exploring this option
