Eli

Eli feels 100 percent

Eli Manning said that his surgically repaired ankle feel 100 percent healthy, but doctors have told him he’s not ready (Vacchiano, May 12).

“I already feel like I can go out there and do everything,” Manning said. “We’ll still be smart about it these next few weeks and not overdo anything. If they want to limit me somewhat, I’ll understand that. But I want to take every single rep and they know that.”

Manning underwent minor ankle surgery on April 10 and had been declared out for OTAs by GM Jerry Reese.

John Fennelly, Lead Writer

Eli is about a week or so ahead of schedule, but it doesn’t matter. The Giants are not playing roulette with his health and their future. In that presser mentioned above, Reese told reporters that Eli would be back in the summer. The Giants’ minicamp will be held fromJune 17-19, two days before the start of summer.

It is probable that Eli may take some limited action during minicamp, but the Giants would prefer to stick to the original timeline with Eli returning to full duty at training camp in late July.

Hey, how's Bargnani's free agency going?  Has he scheduled any meetings?

In my book, if we wind up with

Affalo, beverley, Lee and Robin Lopez  minus Calderon  + a first rounder from Golden State

That would be an awesome feat !!

jeandd323
jeandd323

@starksoakmase @jeandd323 I am not a capologist but if we remove Calderon 7+M from our books and leverage the trade exceptions maybe we can make it work .... Seem feasible at the 50K feet level.

starksoakmase
starksoakmase

@jeandd323 That would be impossible I think. I would be very happy with that scenario minus Beverly because I don't know how that could even work....

Since we can NOT attract free agents to NY we should trade Melo and Calderon to the Bulls for McDermott,Gibson and  Noah.

Hmm....ok....maybe No Beverley then....is their anybody with the JR Smith trade exception we can trade for? We would have 5-6 million left in cap. Space

starksoakmase
starksoakmase

@Anthony Gaetano DeCesare Let's say Robin's contract is backloaded and we have some more cap space for this year. How many trade exceptions do we have and what would make a D.Lee trade possible? Any idea?

starksoakmase
starksoakmase

@Anthony Gaetano DeCesare Just read that u can't combine trade exceptions. we have 4 trade exceptions. The biggest one we have is JR's at 5.9 mil. If Robin gives us a break in the first year, maybe we will have enough room to take on Lee? Not really sure how it all works...

Free agent center Robin Lopez discussing deal with Knicks that would earn him in range of $12M-$13M per season, league sources tell Yahoo.

leave it to the Knicks to say something stupid before the guy even gets there.

This is the worst span on new York sports history that I can remember

Knicks= Joke . last championship over 40 years ago

Mets=  disaster

Yankees= old and getting older.

Rangers= suck as usual

Islanders= are they an NHL Team?

Giants= Eli Manning throws more INTs than TDs

JETS=  no comment

WE HAVE NOTHING..  Where is our money going? New Yorkers work hard and spend a lot of money on sports.  The money is not being put back into the product. we are the fools for letting it happen

1harris1

@justin m Rangers "suck as usual"?  They made a Cup finals two seasons ago, and they were in the conference finals last season.  What have you been watching?

Keith Snow

Mets Prob will have one f the best young rotations in league for years to come. Offense is what's killing them right now.

Not a Yankee or jets fan so don't care bout them

Rangers were in the Stanley cup finals two years ago and 1 game away from goin back this year.

Giants are up and down. With no online doesn't help Eli situation.

Why don't we wait a couple of days before we draw conclusions on how we're doing on the free agent front? We're probably not getting one of the top guys, but maybe we can sign Robin Lopez and pair him with another decent to good player.  Afflalo was a good signing, given the contract.  Losing Monroe is not the end of the world-he's not even an all star.  Who knows?  I just think it's silly to draw conclusions when we're not even 48 hours into free agency.

They're not competing for a championship next year, regardless.  Hopefully they can be competitive and build from there.

starksoakmase
starksoakmase

@1harris1 Exactly. People are going crazy because we didn't get Greg Monroe? What has he done in the NBA? This guy is not a game-changer. I would like to have gotten LA, but he was never going to come here anyway.

The offseason is very young, I just want a watchable team next year that has flexibility to improve going forward....

@starksoakmase @1harris1  you are two of the best posters here but i understand why people are bugging. the last 2 years at MSG have been nightmares (not to mention the last 15 years) and then half the knicks fans are Mets fans so you have to understand the inclination to freeeak-the-heck-out

Keith Snow
Keith Snow

While I can agree with is. Reason behind the freak out is that it's been a long time that we've had a offseason where so many ppl agree to contracts on day one. Normally patience is huge in the offseason but this year if we don't act a lil quicker we might get shut out completely and only end up with affalo.

starksoakmase
starksoakmase

@Keith Snow wait for the dust to settle. hopefully Robin Lopez is left standing and we can get a nice PF to play the year....

Keith Snow
Keith Snow

I'm all for Lopez coming. But at the same time does that really open other fa eyes in the future? Also depends how the team does during the season.

@starksoakmase @rico @1harris1 did you ever notice how it's always easier to do someone else's job than your own? So easy to have opinions and make decisions you are not responsible for?  I think maybe Phils idea of himself as an exec came from years of "input" he gave as a coach, and now faced with the task of being an exec he may be stumbling over the weight of his own responsibilities. He acts more like a coach than an exec, dictating a system no-one is excited to play with no regards for the strengths and weakness's of his players. I get where he's coming from, basketball and team-play as Zen. I even like it, in theory.

Of course Harris is right, we should all take a breath and see what he puts together, but something feels so off about this chapter.

starksoakmase
starksoakmase

@rico @starksoakmase @1harris1 thoughtful posters are in short supply around here and probably in most places in the blog-o-sphere... but at least there seems to be some kind of vision and absence of desperation reaches that has gotten this team into so many terrible positions over the years (a pick for Bargiani!!!!!) Patience is something that has been missing save for the Walsh years before Dolan superseded him.....

Keith Snow
Keith Snow

What we need is a top tier fa to take a leap of faith that's what it comes down to imo. Similar to what amare did. Yes we gave him that huge contract and that helped but he also still had to want to come here. I'm sure he wud have gotten that deal or something similar from someone else that struck out on James that year. Stat took a chance and for the most part he helped us be somewhat relevant. And to his credit he tried everything to stay healthy. And got a lot of unwarranted criticism.

Like I said we need someone to take a leap and go from there.

Call me hopeful delusional whatever. I'm just tired of seeing my team buried in mediocrity for so long.

Has anyone noticed the East has gotten stronger too while we are still a laughingstock?

Spree8
Spree8

Afflalo probably regrets signing too. So much for being The Mecca. Seems like the only way we can get quality players is by drafting them. At this juncture Melo should consider waiving that no-trade clause. If we're going to suck next season, which we will, it wouldn't be bad to have a few picks.

bkyguy78
bkyguy78

The only way to get players is if they once played with Melo or are his boys...

1harris1

@Spree8 He has an out after the first year of his deal so don't feel too sorry for him.  lol

Spree8

No, I don't feel sorry for a dude that's set to make $125 mil. And we certainly won't get a superstar in return. But we have gaping holes throughout the roster, so I thought a bunch of solid role players and a pick or two.

Phil is so smug and arrogant, I would bet every GM in the NBA is happy he is being made such a fool.

Now Phil can meet Robin Lopez and go crackhead on him, "cmon' maaaan, I'll suck yo..."

bkyguy78
bkyguy78

Can anyone just simply explain to me the sheer stupidity in making it known to the best PF in the game who SPECIFICALLY doesn't want to play center, that you want him to play center? Are Alan Hahn or Al Trautwig going to have the balls to ask Jackson this?

rico
rico

@bkyguy78 We don't know how factual the "play center" stuff is. They didn't even meet him so how did he get that idea?

Justin Beegel
Justin Beegel

@rico @bkyguy78 I'm just not buying this angle.  You look to land the best free agent available, and if the man wants to play PF, you put him at PF.  No way Phil and co. are going to be adamant about something like this at the sake of not getting a guy of this caliber.  Not buying it.

Tim Tallcouch

Lame excuse, I bet he plays center in San Antonio when they go small

rico

did he cancel the meeting or postpone the meeting?

I'm guessing it's been a tough couple of days for everyone involved, maybe he's going to meet with the knicks tomorrow.   You'd think journalists would be all over his agents office for details but you'd be wrong.

mikeNYM
mikeNYM

@rico reports say he canceled it but who really knows, might as well just sit back and watch instead of listening to all these reports, these reporters just want people watching/listening to them, probably have no idea if the things they are reporting are true or not.

@mikeNYM @rico sounds like sloppy wording from twitter, repurposed on blogs as opposed to accuracy.

Who cares. I don't want to play center? Nice team guy. No thanks. Rather have a guy who thinks team first.

mikeNYM
mikeNYM

@Tim Gallacher Phil should have said you can play PF, why shouldn't he play where he feels most comfortable, he doesn't owe the Knicks anything. Phil should be doing a better job, he's over rated at this point and another mistake of Dolans.
