Buzz: DRC will take physical today for Giants

John Fennelly, Lead Writer

CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is staying in New York an extra day today in order to take a physical with the Giants, as per Adam Schefter:

Does this mean that DRC has chosen the Giants over the Jets? Perhaps…

From Rotoworld:

Physicals are generally routine on free agent visits, but it sounds like this one could be the precursor to a signing. The Giants have aggressively revamped their secondary, landing Walter Thurmond and Quintin Demps while re-signing Trumaine McBride and Stevie Brown. DRC would be an impact cherry on top.

Going into this offseason, the defensive backfield was a major concern for the Giants, and they have been bolstering it almost daily since FA began last Tuesday.

If REESE was going to INK DRC,

i don't think he would have INKed,

Slot CB W.Thurmond for $3.5M,

Still a LOT of Holes to FILL --- C, CB, OG, DT, TE, WR, ---

and NOT a lot of Cap Space Left,

We've got about $6+ million left after you discount the cost of rookie signings. Not exactly sure how we can get DRC with enough money to sign a DLP for C or another WR, DL, TE, etc.

@Skookaloop  They picked up a C and OG already and CB what they need is DT TE and WR

@JamesWS Baas's salary has not been released yet since he was designated a June 1st cut.  They will get back $5 million dollars after June 1st and that will cover the rookie class.   They have plenty of money.

@JamesWS I haven't tried to figure out the cap number (neither has snygiants btw), but if your $6mil number is accurate, signing DRC would definitely put the Giants against the cap wall.

If Reese is planning on filling the aforementioned holes, he better do some homework on draft candidates. I think he can find C, TE, and WR depth in rounds 2 and 3, while going WR, DL or OT at #12.

Seattle showed the importance of a good secondary, and bringing in DRC would put the Giants amongst the 10 best secondaries in the game.

That's huge news. Now you see why I was so upset to hear it wasn't a June 1 cut. That $5 million is a another difference maker we can sign!

Do you have a source for that BTW?

@Brian Webster @Brian BannonBaas was designated a June 1st cut!  He was cut now but his salary won't be freed until June 1st.  Once he his money is gained, they will get $5million back from that and that will pay for the draft class.
