According to, the Giants have about $4.5 million in cap space to play with. The number includes $1 million carried over from 2012. (see chart)

The Giants aren’t done in free agency. Veteran RB Tim Hightower is coming in for a visit. Per Ralph Vacchiano of the Daily News:

Former Redskins running back Tim Hightower is expected to visit Giants this weekend, according to two sources informed of his plans. The 26-year-old was once a promising back who plowed for 23 touchdowns in his first three NFL seasons. But he hasn’t played a regular season game in 17 months since tearing his left ACL in Oct., 2011.

Another attempt to augment the roster with a low-risk, possibly high-reward player. Let’s see where this goes. They already have four players they like at the position in David Wilson, Andre Brown, Da’Rel Scott and Ryan Torain. It’s doubtful in this day and age of the passer the Giants will carry five running backs.

Osi is gone, and most Giant players and fans wish him well. From Tom Rock of Newsday via Sulia:

Reached out to Justin Tuck this evening. Here’s what the captain had to say about Osi Umenyiora signing w/ Falcons:

In a text message, Tuck wrote: “Congrats to Osi. Will def be missed. Wish him all the best.”

Obviously not a surprise that Umenyiora is not returning to the Giants, but Tuck and Osi were close friends.

What we are surprised with, however, is how much the Falcons signed Osi for (2 years, $8.5 mil w/$3.5 mil more in incentives). Osi played all 16 games last year, but only started four, compiling six sacks.
