Former Giant DT Chris Canty, now a member of the Baltimore Ravens, prefers his new QB – Joe Flacco – over his old QB – Eli Manning. From Ralph Vacchiano of the Daily News:
Canty, who spent the last few years with the Giants before signing with the Ravens this offseason, was asked by NBC’s Pro Football Talk to choose a QB, and he picked the reigning Super Bowl MVP over his former teammate.
“Joe Flacco, because he won a Super Bowl and he is one or the best deep ball throwers in the National Football League,” Canty said. “Take a look at the tape.
“He throws a beautiful deep ball,” he added. “He puts it only where the receivers can get their hands on it when you talk about the vertical passing game.”
Of course Canty is going to say that! He could be right, too. Who knows? Flacco is the closest thing to Eli in this league (along with Matt Ryan) and is also a SB MVP, so I wouldn’t take this as an insult.
Flacco needs one more SB win in my book to be considered, but he’s a low-key guy with a lot of talent – just like Eli. Canty goes on the air quite a bit (he had a running gig here at SNY) for a guy who was mainly known for his hefty contract more than his contributions on the field.
