New York Giants Update for June 12

Day Two of minicamp on tap at TPC this afternoon. Fewer questions going into today’s session, however.

What you need to know this morning….

*Hakeem Nicks reported to the facility yesterday. He said he was glad to be back and has mended fences with head coach Tom Coughlin. He would not divulge the reasons behind why he skipped OTAs. Instead, Nicks chose to focus on moving past the incident, stating he’s healthy and ready to work – which he did.

*Coughlin said JPP (back) was not in the building but was “in town” and would not be doing anything physical for awhile.

“He’s back and he’s here, but he’s in the process of getting to the point where he can do some things and I know that probably for the first three or four weeks he’s not going to be doing much…”

*On the other hand, FB Henry Hynoski (knee) is on the road to recovery. “Everyday he’s in there,” said Coughlin.

*Asked if the Giants had any interest in Pro Bowl FB Vonta Leach, who was released by Baltimore yesterday, Coughlin covered it this way: “We’re interested in everybody.”

*The coach said his son-in-law, G Chris Snee (hip) and C David Baas (elbow) are scheduled to be ready for training camp. Yesterday, they were dressed (in shells, like the rest of the team) but did not participate in drills.

*Coughlin seemed to be losing patience with the Victor Cruz contract situation. Not sure whether he’s frustrated with Cruz or the fact that he has nothing new to report.

“I’ve been optimistic since day one and it hasn’t gotten me anywhere, has it? I just continue to be that way. The clock is running. The calendar dates are going by. This is something that at least we could have benefitted by, if nothing else, this mini camp. But you have to realize that there is no contract at this time. So without a contract, he’s not going to be here.”

GEICO Sportsnite has coverage from Giants minicamp, where wide receiver Hakeem Nicks rejoined the team on Tuesday.
