With opening night just a little over 48 hours away, the Giants had their final tuneup before the Dallas Cowboys come to town.
WR Hakeem Nicks did not practice again today, sitting out drills to rest his surgically-repaired foot. He is expected to start Wednesday night.
“I know it’s for the better,” Nicks said today. “I know they just want to take care of my foot. We don’t want any setbacks. It’s a big game, opening game of the season; I’m looking forward to that.”
Also not practicing today: OT James Brewer (back), CB Prince Amukamara (ankle) and DT Marvin Austin (back). None are expected to dress this week.
T Will Beatty (back), LB Mathias Kiwanuka (groin), LB Adrian Tracy (hamstring) were limited again and LB Michael Boley (hamstring), RB Ahmad Bradshaw (hand), CB Jayron Hosley (toe) practiced in full.
Kiwanuka was asked if he could feel if people were coming after the champs:
“You feel it, you sense it, you hear it. People talk about it when they’re out there on the field. We’ve been in this situation before, you want to measure yourself up against the best, and it doesn’t matter where you’re at in terms of wins-losses in the season. If you get a chance at the defending champs, you’re going to give it your best shot.”
OL Mitch Petrus on if being cut and re-signed served as a wake-up call:
“Yeah, that’s the way I look at it. I never go out there and take it for granted. You have to go out there and work hard, I’m not out there going 50% or 80%, I try to go out there, and even on plays that I screw up on, I try to give it everything I’ve got. I don’t play with any regrets, it didn’t work out and they let me go, but they called me back. I still have to make some improvements, all players do. For me, just being in-tune with the minor, specific details, it all adds up in the end, it all counts.”
Dallas’ DB Brandon Carr had stated earlier this summer that Giants WR Victor Cruz would not get an opportunity to perform his salsa TD celebration against the Cowboys. Cruz, when asked today, initially said he was unaware of the statement, but then laughed and admitted he had heard it.
“Yeah, I guess that comes along with the Victor Cruz territory right now, so I guess I have no choice but to do that,” said Cruz of the salsa. “The ban has been lifted.”
