Friday Update: Victor Cruz; DB Moves

John Fennelly , Lead Writer

The latest on Victor Cruz……John Mara has ‘nothing to report’ he says….the waiting period for negotiating with a free agent who has switched agents is five-days, not three as originally reported. ┬áJenny Vrentas of the Star Ledger reports that Cruz switched agents on Monday, March 11, which means he won’t be approachable by teams until tomorrow the 16th….READ

From Rotoworld: No news is good news for the Giants. As long as Cruz doesn’t receive an offer sheet, the Giants will have him under control for the 2013 season on a one-year tender of $2.879 million. Mara reiterated that the Giants’ goal is to retain Cruz on a long-term deal.

Cruz and his new agent, Tom Condon, can seek and field offer sheets until April 19th. If no sheet is signed by then, his rights revert back to the Giants. It looks like that will most likely happen now.

If Minnesota signs Greg Jennings, they’ll surely pass on move for Cruz. The Rams lost their top WR in Danny Amendola to the Patriots the other day. Their second top producer, Brandon Gibson, is out testing the market. They just signed up-and-coming TE Jared Cook but are lacking a star at wideout. They have two first-rounders and may be the only team with the ammo to shoot across the Giants’ bow….

Still leery about the latest moves in the secondary. Not sure why Giants are rekindling the Aaron Ross relationship. Also not sold on this Ryan Mundy. These signings appear to be financial in nature. I don’t think either improves the team.

I wrote yesterday that the Dolphins’ Sean Smith would be a nice fit. An hour later, he was being fitted for Chiefs jersey. The Eagles snared Baltimore’s Cary Williams later in the afternoon. There’s not much left to choose from. They have no interest in Nnamdi and Aqib Talib and Brent Grimes seem headed back to their old teams.
