NFL Free Agency: Tynes Could Be Scooped Up By Niners

Lawrence Tynes time with the Giants may be coming to a close. The soon-to-be 35 year-old placekicker will be an unrestricted free agent come tomorrow at 4pm. From Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea reports the 49ers will “strike quickly” this week in replacing the recently cut David Akers:

The 49ers are believed to be interested in free-agent kicker Lawrence Tynes, who is not expected to return to the New York Giants. Tynes has a history of kicking in inclement conditions. He has also experienced success at Candlestick Park, including a 31-yard field goal in overtime to send the Giants to the Super Bowl two seasons ago.

The Giants have signed two kickers this offseason in preparation for Tynes’ possible departure – former Cowboy David Buehler and Jake Rogers, who was inked to a futures deal.

Tynes has certainly been a valuable player for the Giants, but he’s struggled recently going 52-for-63 on FGs since 2011. He signed a 5 year, $7 million deal before the 2008 season and made $1.3 million last year.
