Should the Giants have let Nicks go?

The Giants offense (or lack of it) has become a hot topic on television, talk radio, blogs and corner bars this summer. QB Eli Manning is just 7-for-16 passing for 49 yards thus far in preseason with 0 TDs and three sacks.

Starting WRs Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle have yet to get their preseasons going. Cruz has no receptions through three games and Randle has just one. Top pick Odell Beckham Jr. has not appeared in a game as of yet due to a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, former Giant WR Hakeem Nicks, who the team chose not pursue in free agance this past March, is having a fine preseason. looking a lot like his old self. He sliced through the Giants last Saturday with five catches for 53 yards.

LoudMouths Adam Schein and Sal Licata talk about Colts receiver Hakeem Nicks and if the Giants will regret not re-signing him.

One half decent game, nothing to write home about.

Hakeem has been a problem for the giants for at least 1 yea if not longer,, agree with other comments lets see where he is at the end of the season, if he lasts that long

Have to also remember he was standing in the way of other potentials like Washington & Co, all need their chance.

The Giants made the correct move and let him walk.

They have been correct on many tight ends and receivers, letting them go.

Absolutely not....  Nicks mailed it in last year.  He didn't run hard, pulled himself from games due to injury (when everyone in the NFL is banged up).  He had alligator arms on many passes, etc...

If anyone should have been cut (or in his case, not re-signed) it is Hakeem Nicks.

He looked motivated in one preseason game.  Lets see what he looks like for 16 games this season.

(Anyone else notice he was playing the slot on Saturday, and not on the outside)

Nicks didn't want to be here and when was the last time he played a 16 game season? The bigger question is whether OBJ will always be injured or even see the field this year as I read he came up limping after catching a pass yesterday. Serenity Now!

There is no question the Giants did the right thing and let Nicks go. Nothing he's done in the last two years warranted a massive Cruz-type contract or better. This offense currently would still be terrible now whether or not Nicks was still here. This offense is dependent on the QB, and Eli is struggling with it. Eventually Eli should be competent enough to run the offense and make it work, but he's never going to be a 70% completion passer, no matter what system is used. He's never been that accurate of a passer anyway. To expect him to do that now is ridiculous.

He obviously played like a guy who didn't want to be here. What would have changed this year? Nothing. He's happy with Luck and good for him. No way around the fact that he played like trash last year. He's also one bad foot sprain from being ineffective again this year. If he gets someone to step on his foot bye bye Hakeem.
