The Giants play the New Orleans Saints, a team they’ve played only 26 times since 1967, winning 14 but losing four of the six meetings since the millennium began. These teams and the cities they represent could not be anymore different. Sunday’s game will finally see the Giants play the Saints outdoors in the cold rather than the comfy confines of the Superdome.
From Tom Coughlin’s conference call with Saints media pool…
Is the green zone the 30-yard line?
“Green zone is what you call the red. The 30 (yard line) is the fringe.”
Why do you call it the green zone?
“Go. Green lights go.”
From Eli Manning’s conference call with Saints media pool….
Have you ever thought about the possibility of meeting your brother Peyton in New Orleans for the Super Bowl?
“We have a long way to go. Our focus is to try and get to the playoffs. It starts this week. That’s not on the radar right now.”
Has the possibility of that matchup been discussed amongst your family members?
“No, definitely not.”
Saints QB Drew Brees’ conference call with Giants media pool…
You have had a lot of success against the Giants. Are there certain teams that just bring out your best?
“I just think, for whatever reason, that’s the way it’s worked out. I feel like we’ve always played in some big games; both teams have been successful, so they’ve been meaningful games at different points in the season. As far as the success level or not, I can’t say, other than just those have been games where we’ve been able to execute very well, and for whatever reason, we’ve been able to have success.”
How big a factor is it with your offense to play on the road and outside the dome over the years?
“Obviously we’ve played well at home; we’ve won a lot of big games at home. I can also point to a lot of games where we’ve won some really big games on the road. The great teams find a way to win no matter where they go, whether it’s at home, whether it’s on the road; when its crunch-time and you’re in a situation where it’s a must-win and you have to play well and you can’t slip-up, the great teams are able to come through. We want to be one of those teams. We understand this is one of those situations.”
