Eli Manning: How Much Does He Need Victor Cruz?

Victor Cruz. We all love him. Eli Manning said yesterday that he would restructure his deal to help the Giants keep him. But business is business. Cruz can put his name on an offer sheet from now until April 19th. If that happens, the Giants will have five days to match or lose him to another team.

Of course they will receive that team’s first round draft pick in next month’s NFL Draft. With that pick, they can get themselves a much-needed LB, OL, CB or even another receiver. If Cruz receives no offers, he will stay with the Giants for at least another year. The best case scenario, however, is getting Cruz’ signature on a long-term deal.

The Giants have a healthy Hakeem Nicks returning, along with Rueben Randle and recently-signed speedster Louis Murphy. Keeping Cruz in the fold would make that an even more imposing unit.

The WheelHouse discusses how much Eli Manning needs wide receiver Victor Cruz on the roster this season.

Our next 6 games are just crazy, I will suspend any illusions of grandeur (making the playoffs) until after they play these games.  If we are still within 4-5 pts of the playoffs at the break, then we'll have a solid chance at it in March.

How about Brock Nelson, a PROSPECT who worked out, last pick of the first round, too early to call a gem, but a steal.

I took the time to watch this game.  It was a holiday schedule at Bethpage and Eisenhower and that means no senior rate.  Not that I'm cheap but,,, I got to stay home, enjoy a cold beverage, and watch a win.  That's a good thing.  They did give away a point but, they are still learning, and getting better.

Butchie did make the comment after the first period, "you can't win with poor goal tending".  that's a pretty damning comment about what he thinks about the two kids we have in goal until Nabokov returns.  But, the team took care of that in the second and third, making Nilsson's afternoon a bit easier.  I did get a bit nervous in the over-time when he lost his stick and made that butt save on his hands and knees.  I'm happy,,, I think I'll go pop open another Gennie Cream Ale...

I'm not going to respond to anyone in general, but some of you guys are never happy.  You just watched the team erase a 2 goal deficit against a good team and win it in a shoot out.  A little bit of optimism would not be out of order.  I know you guys are fans, but it almost seems like you are happiest when they are playing poorly.

So just play 1 period then, forget a full 60 minutes, go behind 2 goals and save the awesomeness forwhen it counts ! Wow to win like this crazy butwhatever, bring onthe rags!

By the way all....Steve Olesky was put on waivers by the Caps today...+7 on a team in the midst of a 5 game losing streak that can't get their goaltending figured out....would be a big upgrade over martinek and carkner

If the islanders some how manage to make the playoffs...I am not sure how JT doesn't at least get nominated for the Hart....he has just gotten better and better and is the only reason this team is now 5 out....gotta get 2 at MSG tomorrow...

What a great comeback. I'd call it a steal. Good job!

They really earned this one.  Great win.  Congrats to Nilsson.  Well done all around.

Well, they got two points and the Flyers got 3. At least they won.

@shlo

I have a dream,,, wait a minute,,, that belongs to someone else today...

Anyway, I do think that Nelson with Strome and Lee could be a pretty good second line...

@since72  Some of these guys wouldn't be happy even if they won the lottery. They would still find something to complain about.

I'm happy.  I missed the opportunity to work on my iron game and stayed in to watch the this game.  They won, and any dat with an Islander win is okay...

Well said 72, some seem to hate the owner so much that they enjoy the team losing more than winning.

Zee Executioner

@since72 They lost a point in a home at home. Cheer down there. They're still 26th overall. Lottery time.

Nevermind. I read yourpost below. You're a sockpuppet. Have fun astroturfing!

@Peter Puglisi Why would they be putting him on waivers?! +7 on a solid team granted one that is slumping. Totally agree he is worth a look.

@gleichzahl Emery is no more than a back up.  His stats are near the bottom of the league.  Give Nilsson credit.  He played well enough to win.

@Zach14 steal?  i don't think they stole the third period.  they did to the flyers what the flyers had done to them the other night.

@redspointofview; I'd love to see that line, question though. Who would you have a center?

@rmreturns

Just call me RED,,, you remember who I am...

And that is why I believe the playoffs to be a pipe dream this year.  Our goal tending is suspect at best.  That is the area that Snow needs to address, solidify our position in goal...

Oh yeah,,, and who is Zimmerman???

Lies. I said i was happy. It's just a meaningless win and you know it.

Surprise surprise, name calling and insults. Two things you seem to do well Zee. Call people names and laugh at them, great qualities to have.

@Zee Executioner @CaptainT Whoever drafted him, we are very lucky to have him. Took a few years for he's maturation to progress to where it is today, but he is a slightly smaller sized version of what I can hope in my dreams that Brock Nelson turns into, which seems to be a great player.

Zee Executioner
Zee Executioner

@gleichzahl @Zee Executioner Yeah, they're only in the division! Who cares?! Are you kidding me?

The Isles ain't making the playoffs, but I'm merely pointing out that they lost a point to them and they hold 3rd place right now.

Apparently, one of the many other sockpuppets, Isles23, formerly known as Matt, doesn't understand the playoff system, either.

Zee Executioner
Zee Executioner

Wrong. I said i was happy. I am merely not ADVERTISING FALSE HOPE ON THIS BLOG.

You don't have to think so but there are MANY here whom are connected with the Islanders in some way posting here just like the tool who wrote you.

I am happy when they win but am realistic that it means little to be 26th overall, last in the division, and then lose a game in regulation to a division rival; turnaround and win the skills competition to get the extra point, then think WHOA THIS IS BIG SHYTE!!!!! when they actually lost a point in the two games to Philly. When considering they're already done, WHO CARES?!?!?!

I guess that's my point.

But feel free to breathe in the sweet smoke of the sockpuppet mob as they lure you in to another waste of a season.

@Chris. And believe me I get it to an extent. I've said many times I don't love Wang but I love the New York Islanders and that's never gonna change.

When i call you a sockpuppet, it's not a "name". It's what you're doing. Come clean there. Be an honest person for once. You are not posting here for fun - there is a residual reason.

Sure did, I'm just pointing out the simple fact he acts like the smartest man in the world but is always reduced to name calling and laughs at others. I think that shows who he really is.

@rmreturns

I get it, because I have spent a life time playing team sports.  I went to college with a baseball scholarship and failed at making it a career but spent years playing competitive softball across Long Island.  The concept of team out weighs the individual.  You bond with, and play for your team mates first, and winning makes up for anything else.  My days of playing team sports are long gone but, I do miss the camaraderie.  Based on that principle, one could hope that Vanek sees the team as more important than a few extra bucks somewhere else and takes Snow's offer...
