According to Art Stapleton of the Bergen Record (who is in Canton this weekend for the Hall of Fame induction ceremony), Giants head coach Tom Coughlin will be joined by several members of the Mara family in a show of support for former Giants head coach Bill Parcells, who is a member of this year’s HOF class….
Team president and co-owner John Mara told The Record that his mother and Coughlin would be among those on a private plane scheduled to leave Teterboro Airport immediately following Giants’ practice that afternoon.
“We’ll give Tom some time to shower,” John Mara said with a laugh. “As far as my mother, I asked her the other day if she wanted to go and she said, ‘Of course.’
“I don’t think she thought twice about that not being an option.”
Parcells, a native of Bergen County, lead the Giants to their first two Super Bowl championships. Coughlin coached under Parcells here between 1988-90 and was on the staff that won Super Bowl XXV.
Reporters inquired if Tom’s trip would infringe on his duties here with the Giants…
“I’ll leave after practice. Coaches will take over the evening meetings and then we’re going to go for the ceremony to honor Bill and be there for him as Giant to Giant and then we’ll travel back.”
Former Giants DE George Martin will be giving Parcells’ induction speech during tomorrow’s ceremony.
