Jets’ Ryan tweaks Andre Williams

Rex Ryan was ready Wednesday when asked about Giants rookie running back Andre Williams’ comment to the New York Post that he thinks “the Giants are the real New York team.”

“Yeah, the last time I saw (Williams),  he was getting smoked by Clemson,” Ryan said of Williams, a former Boston College player who was held to 70 yards by Clemson last fall (AP, Aug. 20).

The Jets meet the Giants Friday at MetLife Stadium.

“I will say that kid is a good back, though.  . . .But you know what, hey, (Williams’ comment is) great. I have a funny feeling he’s going to get some (helmets) put on him, but we’ll see,” Ryan said.

Ryan’s son Seth is a redshirt wide receiver at Clemson. The Tigers were one of four teams to hold Williams under 100 yards last season, when Williams ran for 2,177 yards.

Jets nose tackle Damon Harrison also chimed in on Twitter: “See you Friday Mr. Williams…#JetLifeeeeee.”

Rex may be the most immature coach in the NFL.  Do you ever think Coughlin would respond to such a non issue statement by an opposing player?  He sounds like a kid in a schoolyard.  It must be embarrassing to root for a team so bad and with such a tool for a coach.  A coach only a Jet fan could love.

Not sure what everyone is up in arms about.

It is good to see Williams confident and with a little swagger, so long as he backs it up.

With Ryan, I'd have to imagine he was asked of his thoughts on Williams by a reporter (Though I'm unsure of this). My take when he states "Get some helmets put on him" simply means his players will have extra incentive to make a tackle on Williams.

I highly doubt there is any kind of bad blood because of this comment.

@GiantsTalkLine one of the many reasons i hate Rex Ryan and the Jets. Unnecessary. Would NEVER see Tom Coughlin say this crap.

Why am I not surprised that people who play football, put a bounty on a rookie for just being positive? You threaten to "put a helmet or 2 on him" which only proves that if you are using the helmet as a weapon, you are just dirty, filthy pigs! I wish to thank all the NFL A-Holes that have taken a good, tough game and turned it into pure sh-t!
